Interested in your results Fenix. ESS has a dealer up here in the bay area and is only a 1.5hr drive so if you put up good numbers then it will be a must. I don't do 1/4 mile, track, etc... I'm just a weekend warrior. I want the feel that I had when I first in my jb3 on my n54 335i. That "oh shit" feel... hopefully I can get a little bit of when I get my car back from the n63 CCP next week and install the BMS Stage 1.
Right now I'm finishing up the cosmetics and drive feel. The last bit of suspension will be the m5 sways. I'm also going to toss on some drilled and dimpled rotors. Should be fun times ahead. |

Had a long day at work finished by some time on the dyno, so short review for now, long one when he emails me the graphs. He had me come in after work to get the car done before he left the country for a month, so Thanks again AJ!
Basically a cliff notes of the past couple weeks, AJ found out the early F10 cars have the older 5 series computers still, not the new Tri-core computers found in the later 550s and N63TU cars (he can verify by your VIN which one you have) which he has no problem tuning. Unfortunately with the older computers, they use a flash port which no longer exists on the F10s, and he gets one bench flash on a new ECU basically once before its permanent. I decided to wait until I figured out of I'm doing downpipes and turbos before buying a new ECU, and then I will have him do a custom tune... in the mean time he has a pretty fancy piggy back system which I will go into. First off, this isn't a JB4 knock off, or even in the same league (he has both on hand, not only does he test all of the competition, he makes sure his works better), its a different product altogether. Construction wise, its all high grade components, completely weather sealed and safe under the hood for all temps and conditions. Beyond that, its SUPER simple to use! He sells a plug and play version with tunes preloaded, and can also custom build up to 3 tunes you can change at any time. In addition to the 3 tunes, you can add or subtract boost from each individual tune on the fly, or turn it completely off. This piggy back references MAFs, MAPs and also crank so its RPM tunable, so on mine he had boost slowly build in above 3,000 rpm to redline. It is also 100% plug and play with a 15 min install, no pulling the PCM or harnesses apart, pinning things out etc. I can launch hard as I want and hook perfect, then have the power hit HARD when it comes into boost and just keep building and building until redline. For those who want the huge boost spike, that can be done as well, but this allows me to run more boost safely as it builds it instead of just hitting with whatever extra boost instantly which generally induces knock retard and causes the car to lag. When not in boost it drives 100% completely stock with no issues, no codes so far (only about 10 dyno pulls and 20 miles on it so far, but I drive 100 miles a day for work so rest assured it will be tested!) and as soon as you do get on it, nothing but smooth ridiculous pull! He's going to email me the dynos tomorrow before he leaves, but I've been up since 4 am so soon as he was done I needed to get home so I can get up tomorrow. Once he gets back and I figure out what I'm going to do, he said to leave the piggy back in place so I can make the base tune with all the goodies on the ECU, and then use the piggy back with 3 tunes for my race gas, pump gas and then try E85, as well as boost adjustment on the fly. I will get some pictures when I get time this week, and also update with everything once I get some more miles on it. |

I have a vid of the dyno but not the final run, he had to get two more cars done before going to Europe this morning, this was just something to play with until he gets back We didn't do any cool down time between runs, just getting the tune set and making me a couple tunes to play with. I will snap some pics tonight, but do have one next to a Burger for size and look comparison The harness includes both MAP sensors, both MAF sensors and the crank sensor.

Operation on it is pretty neat as well. It stores 3 tunes ( in my case, stock, mild and full power), then you can add or subtract from each tune separately on the control box for fuel or if you have pinging issues. You can shut the box off if you don't want to use it, and it also includes a plug you install that reconnects all the stock harnesses while leaving the piggy back harness in place. I haven't driven it other than home last night and traffic this morning, so I will report back more when I've had a chance to play with it, and were going to dyno it again when he gets back now that its been on the car a while. It felt noticeably faster after a couple hits on the freeway last night.

when I get a friday off I may hit the track, being in law enforcement the other two wont happen. You're happy with the burger stuff anyway, if you want to try something else you can either order one, or make a trip down here and play on the dyno

In that case, I'm only interested in 0-45 and 30-65... Grats on the tune, I hope you're happy with it. I may well be paying ESS a visit too in a month or so...

Ive never run on the east coast, but I remember taking my C6 vette to san diego for a vacation and it felt like someone added nitrous to it the whole time... amazing what good air and sea level can do to a car! Granted the great thing about turbos is they can compensate for a lot as long as they aren't maxed out, but the heat and heat soak plus the air quality cause problems here.

you are limited by Turbos not the cooling.
