Does BMW Fill the tank when you pick up at the Welt?

Maybe this is a silly question... every dealer fills the tank when you buy a car. I was thinking tonight that gas is kind of expensive in Germany. I would expect BMW still fills the tank though. Can someone confirm, does the Welt fill the tank?

Nope. They only fill it up with 6 gallons. Every car that leaves the factory has this amount of fuel. Must be for transport purposes.

That's why you pick it up at your local dealer instead... demand full tank when you sign the contract =)

They only give you 6 gallons. Also when you return it at drop-off you should have no more than 6 gallons in the tank otherwise they can't ship it.

So if they gave you a full tank, they would be forcing you to take a road trip, whereas some people don't drive the car at all or just drive it to drop-off.

During my ED, I estimated how much gas I would use on my route, and only added that amount to avoid overfilling.

I picked up my 550xi on 9/2/11. The Welt only had a quarter tank in it. There are 4-5 gas stations in the area. If you have a gas engine be sure to buy premium from the blue (98) or green (95) pumps. DO NOT USE THE YELLOW OR BLACK PUMPS... that is diesel-grade fuel.

Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner (been in Munich).

Yes, they gave me about a 1/4 tank. I hadn't heard anything about that 6 gallon drop off rule. I drop the car off in Munich this morning with a little less than 1/2 a tank. They didn't say anything about it so I'm guessing its alright.

I stopped at the Shell down the street from BMW and filled the tank. The price was 1.54 Euro / Liter for (Premium 95). The cheapest I saw it in Munich was 1.45.

1.54 x 3.79 Liters = $5.836 Euro / Gallon

The exchange rate was about .71 at the time so that makes its about $8.01 a Gallon.

Because BMW puts a couple of gallons in the tank already, the total cost for fill up was $110.21. I should say that this price was full service and that seemed pretty common in the city.

They do it for security measures since these cars enclosed in a building ... they cannot have full tank of gas.
