Finally, someone made it!!!!
I have been longing to find a solution to the weak trans in our 535's. The 8HP45 is perfectly fine for stock levels of power, but for those of us that want to push the envelope a little, it is woefully inadequate. It seems the MOPAR guys have heard our prayers.
Specifically a company called Southern Hot Rod: http://www.southernhotrod.com/product-p/shr-21041.htm It supports up to 1000 HP!!!!!! I already sent them a message to see if this trans can be coded to our cars. Fingers crossed |

$5600! That's the point when she becomes your daily driver to your track car only. Even if you go all out with the PureTurbo2 upgrades I'd just get an M5 and build that.

compare that to the pure stage 2 at less than $6k installed (including install, fmic, dp). the weak link on the f10 is the trans. so it seems comparatively cost effective to get more power than the e60 could for about 2/3 of what it would have cost. trans included. and still have a fairly reliable daily driver? not that bad a trade off. I don't plan on taking my 535 to the max possible power output. it still needs to be streetable. but I don't want to be worried my trans will leave me in a cloud of smoke somewhere either. the trans in our cars is rated at a pathetic 330 lb ft |

I suppose another option could be to just swap out to a DCT transmission, not sure how "plug and play" that would be.

$6K transmission with a 12K mile/1 year warranty. Why not just build a drag car if going fast in a straight line is main concern. Or a track car if taking it around the track is main concern. The reason why it took so long for this to come out is probably because there is no market for it...

Well, the thought process i simple. It doesn't take much modification on our cars to exceed the rated torque levels that ZF engineered into the trans.
Example: 528/535 come with the 8HP45, which is rated at a max of 450 Nm (~331 ft lb) of torque. 550 come with 8HP70, which is rated at 700 Nm(~435 ft lb) For one thing, if you're under warranty, I guarantee the dealer will not cover any trans issue if your car is modified. And Dinan, BMS, and the others push the envelope of the torque handing capabilities of the trans. So, the question isn't whether to balk at the cost of $5800 for the upgraded trans. Rather, how much will your trans cost to replace at the dealer when/if it fails? Probably not a lot less than the cost of the upgraded one. And whenever I know something needs to bee replaced, I will always choose an upgrade over swapping in the same thing again. The car doesn't have to be a track car, but you don;t go very far with a beautiful, modified car that blows it's trans every time you punch it. You will have a very pretty and expensive paperweight at that point. |

It is generally accepted the torque rating on a transmission is a conservative figure.
The 8HP70 you've linked to won't bolt up to our engines, software would be the least of your problems. |

The torque rating most likely is conservative, however, I don't want to be the one to find the "real" limit. The 8HP70 I linked probably would need an adapter plate, or a different bell housing, since it is made for MOPARs. Again, I am fortunate, I know quite a few very good machinists, so making a plate would cost a couple hundred bucks at most (I asked). I am looking into all options because I am planning on a power output in the 500-550 to the wheels range, and at that output the stock trans might as well be made of glass. The other option I am considering is a full DCT swap from an M3/4, which would be more of a direct swap (see the 2nd link I posted, which is for a DCT from a 2015 M3)

Again, this is for informational purposes only. This isn't a group buy, so it's just letting people know it's possible. I am still waiting to hear back from Southern Hot Rods to see what they can do. If they want (since because of the accident my car will be in the shop for a bit anyway) I will talk to them about sending them my existing trans for them to install their beefed up clutch packs and a better torque converter - who knows?
