F10 Clutch Delay Valve delete CDV

I know this is a big modification on the 3 series, pretty much BMW designed a valve in the clutch assembly so no matter how quickly/smoothly you shift it will always shift at the same point because of this valve.

I know about 90% of the F10 drivers on here have an automatic transmission but the ones with the 6MT, has anyone done this mod?

I love the smooth shifting in my F10 LCI, However when I'm driving spiritedly the transmission just doesn't shift as fast as I'd like it to.

It looks like this is one of the main websites for the valve.

http://zeckhausen.com/BMW/F10.htm

Some information on it

http://zeckhausen.com/cdv.htm

Thinking about giving it a try and seeing how it changes things.

Anyone? I emailed the company, will post back when I get a response from them.

I need to throw my car up on the rack and take a look at the slave cylinder and see if there is anything that resembles the CDV on it, I have a hunch it will be there.

I'd do it - but am too lazy to bother and I doubt it would really help much.

I just don't like this gearbox on this car very much.

EDIT: okay I ordered one anyway....

I have this on my car - helped out quite a bit. Clutch engagement more direct and in line with your input...

I've read it really changes the car and how it feels. If you look how the valve works, I can see how getting rid of it would really change the way shifting feels, coming from a 2011 STi and have that direct input and then to my current F10 was a big change.

Jeebus.....I am finally getting around to this since I've had the valve since November and my local indy shop is estimating 3hrs since they've never even seen an F10 and are already mentioning having to drain the brake cylinder or some shyte.

I'm having them at least throw it up on their rack on Monday no charge to confirm their actual estimate.

I would have to buy new a new jack (or two) to do this myself and my existing jack was for my E46 and could barely get a corner up on this heavy F10.

Okay, just had it done and it was "only" $165 but it does feel about 20% improved (feel wise). Cool.

I know I am late to the party here, but 20% improvement is substantial. I noticed stock clutch travel, I only have to depress the clutch 30% to shift with out grinding. With the CDV delete or modded valve do you have to press the clutch down further to shift?

The clutch on my 535 has a lot of travel, glad I only have to press it 30% to shift. If I had to press t the floor not sure I would like this mod.

I feel like a short shift kit is in order too.

Thanks from a fellow 6MT F10 user.

When I had my 2012 550i i changed it out. Removing the CDV allowed me to shift faster. It was especially noticeable at the track. It was actually smoother without it. I have no idea why BMW would put a delay valve.

I'll backtrack and just say the improvement is just a bit noticeable but nothing really to do with clutch travel. I wouldn't bother with a short shift kit either.

The primary improvement will be to budget $$ for the Performance exhaust so you can at least hear the engine and enjoy shifting yourself a bit more.

Then get the sway kit from ECS and maybe ACS springs. That's about all you can do for this car to push it back into the sport zone.

Thanks for the advice. I've been getting feedback on UUC SSK from reputable BMW mechanics and enthusiast, stay away from short shift kits.

Funny you should mention the springs I was looking at those exact ones AC Shnitzer. Could you point me out to the sway bar?

Side note: I'm pretty sure I now have the fastest F10 535i out there. Just got tuned and dyno'd today at GSR tuning. Check those results! 320HP+ 400TQ+

Gonna need those springs and sway bars ASAP!

ECS Tuning sells the M5 front and 650 rear sway bar combo for $499 that most folks are putting on. I plan on doing it eventually as well.

Yeah I think that will be my upgrade is that ECS kit. I don't really want to lower it but wondering if the sway bars alone will eliminate all of the sloshy boat feeling. Also wondering what the feeling would be like with just ACS springs.

All over the place in this thread so back to the CDV. Sounds like if it's only noticeable at the track the it's not really a top priority mod.

You definitely notice it at the track but even regular spirited street driving at least I noticed enough of a difference to say it's a must do. It literally takes minutes to remove the old one put new one in and purge the line of any air. if you have a brake bleeder kit it's a one man operation. Figure no more than 1/2 hour start to finish.

Well I do a lot of spirited driving so I just need to find a CDV that is or can be modified. I don't want to delete it and then have my CPO instantly voided. At least if they see it shouldn't be a concern for the bmw techs.

I bought my valve from this company, very cheap and very well made. The car definitely woke up since getting it installed!!!

Shifts are a lot more crisp now and I am finally able to shift spiritedly without worrying about a valve slowing me down & delaying my shifts. I highly recommend it to anyone with a 6spd. One of the best bangs for your buck you can do on these cars.
