This is happening to my control panel again!!!

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=563658

Has BMW come out with revised buttons that don't wear out yet!?

Has anyone had theirs replaced a SECOND time??

I brought it up to my service advisor, he said its gonna get covered by warranty, but they figured out the way to replace only individual buttons not the entire panel. So i had HVAs fan buttons replaced at 40,000 miles, while i was at it, i noticed that rear door sun shades started leaking some sort of fluid, so they replaced both vertical curtains under warranty.
kinda early for new cars, my E39 had buttons come off, but not peeling off and that was at least 10 years old.

Very unfortunate that this is at all commonplace. Due to these threads I usually touch my cars buttons with the back of my fingers as to not transmit body oil (assuming that's the culprit).

Such a high quality and refined car which can prematurely look like a hooptie with worn out buttons. Lovely.

Garage List
I think there should be an improved part now, on my MY13 528i, the Snowflake button on the HVAC controls has been replaced with the word A/C now as well as Max A/C

I wonder if on 2013's they finally implemented a new way to re-dye the buttons to prevent this from happening at all. There is a member somewhere that "thought" his newer F10 had different/higher quality buttons than his earlier one (though I think they were from maybe the same MY, just different build dates, or maybe they were in fact a year apart from each other). I sat in a 2011 F10 recently and thought the buttons seemed more "glossy" than my 2013's which are nicely matte. Though maybe that was due to poor maintenance by the previous owner thus wearing the buttons out.

mine started peeling off after a year or so, now start/stop button started peeling off also. My warranty is gonna end soon so I'll probably get it replaced soon.

The buttons on my shortcut keys are wearing out now too; WTF!

There are replacement buttons for the HVAC buttons, but anyone know if same exists for these as well?

I’m so particular and never use anything aside from water to clean my interior.

30k and this; who knows what it’ll look like at 60k!?

Not happy.

I'd get it fixed under warranty, but in all honesty, while it stinks and you'd expect more, it's still a car at the end of the day... a constantly depreciating and eroding mechanical blob that, once driven off the showroom floor, will never, ever "be the same." Cars spend their entire lives just getting worse with age... parts wearing, miles stacking up, little paint chips forming on the bumper, grime cementing to the undercarriage, and all the while fading into the distance of the next year's model to replace it! The whole thing is just very sad.

I'd have BMW replace the buttons if it's under warranty - if not, just let it go. Ultimately, because these things will inevitably degrade - if not the buttons, then something else - the best you can do is manage what's reasonable (and won't drive you nuts), and just commit to when you'll replace the car. I had my last two BMWs for about 6.5 years a piece. By year 6, certain stuff just isn't the same. On my last car, there was a film on the steering wheel that starting to peel up in a small corner. I think it was due to heat. It annoyed me the day it happened... but I knew I wasn't keeping the car forever.

Yeah my lower fan speed button is fading. I wish the AC would stay off when the car starts, because I tend to have the windows down. I have to take my car in for service, maybe I'll ask for the button to be replaced.
