Real World MPG please...
Just drove a 550xi w/ M-sport....real tempting (was looking at the 7er).
Anyway - can you chime in w/ your 535 & 550 mpg observations? mention model/awd or not/ hwy/city/etc. Thanks! Aceman |

535i Sport/RWD
Worst avg. 18 - all city Best avg. 31 - all highway Mixed 50/50 highway city use is getting in the neighborhood of 22-25 mpg. The 550i gets about 20% worse mileage. 17-21 mixed use average.

I just picked up a 550i and I currently have about 1200 miles on it. I average about 60 highway miles per day and 15 local. So far I've been getting about 21mpg overall. This is with relatively conservative highway cruising in comfort mode @ 80MPH with the occasional switch to "Sport" mode and sprinting to 110MPH.

I commuting 40 miles daily in an F10 550xi, mainly "city" driving (even though I drive on the highway, it is mostly congested Chicago traffic) I have been averaging 16mpg. Have driven a few longer trips on the weekend, which allows me to open up (w/ sprints to 110mph haha) and those trips have averaged around 22mpg. These figures won't impress your Prius friends (until they experience the unbelievable excelleration). Besides, if one were really interested in cars with good MPG, they would be better off on the Chevy Volt forums. ;-)

First Road Trip: 26.1 MPG
We took our first road trip from St. Louis to Dallas and back with our 535 6- speed this week. Most of the trip is on interstate or the Oklahoma turnpike so we put the pedal to the metal. 2900 rpm in sixth gear equated to about 85 mph on cruise. The average mpg was 26.1 and the average speed was 79 mph. Obviously we could have upped the mileage by slowing down, but not had as much fun! BTW the run flat tires do not seem as noisy as I was expecting. Overall a great road car.

I've had my 2011 550 M sport for two weeks. Its a manual transmission and is always in sports plus mode. I have no highway driving, all stop and go. I'm averaging 13.5 MPG, but I'm having fun doing it.

After 3500 km I'm getting 11.7L/100km on the dash but my last tank of gas I got 10.9L/100km. I drive about 50/50 highway/city roads. I'm hopin I can get it under 10L/100km eventually.

550i 6 speed: About 14 mpg when I'm having fun driving it in Sport, about 17 mpg combined 60/40 city/hwy. If you are concerned about fuel consumption do not hesitate for a second and buy the 535, it's a much more sensible purchase. The 550 will cost you much more in the end, and gas will only be a part of that cost.
