I have not tested the B/O system but I agree 100% with Rhinosaur. The sound with HiFi Professional is brilliant, no distorsion even with the equalizer set for more bass and listening at high volume. I drive more than 22000 kms per year and the sound option, Navi Pro, HUD, speed limit info, comfort seats, panoramic roof and auxiliary heating are the most treasured options so far.

Well...finally bit the bullet & added the HiFi System Professional (16 loudspeakers, 600W digital amplifier with DIRAC signal processing, surround mode and equaliser) to the deal...an extra $A1600 to the price but I know it'll be worth it!

Good decision! It is well worth the extra. So far I am completely satisfied with it.

Hi. Are you guys familiar with high end aftermarket car audio installations? and if so how would you rate the professional option comparing to these options?
I've had some prior sound quality installations on previous vehicles with top notch audio material (dls, diamond audio amps, audison, all top of the range) and have waiting in a box at home a kit of Focal Beryllium 3 way speaker system, among other stuff. The objective would be to keep stock look, providing the best quality possible.
Does the professional sound option from factory come close to these type of installations?

I think the professional option is great on the BMW but isn't going to beat out a Focal or Morel system. Those are premium speakers that you definitely pay for. I'm an audiophile at home but while driving have been very satisfied with the premium sound system that came with my ride. Only thing I have adjusted was adding a sub for extra bass extension. Comes in very handy when riding windows down top open.

Just received an email from from my salesman saying "Your 535d has been built. It is awaiting scheduled transport to take it to the wharf.".

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So - 2 1/2 months after I ordered it, it's built...now 6-8 weeks to get to Australia & be offloaded. Fantastic news. I can't wait to get it obviously & really am looking forward to seeing how the MFID (option 6WB) looks.

I can tell you that I am very picky selecting my cars. As a matter of fact I actually buy an audio system and then take the car around it for granted.
I don't believe in aftermarket equipment irrespective how well spec'd amps and speakers are. Usually aftermarket stuff fulfills a different purpose that has nothing to do with generating non colored/ original sound. A car is by far the most lousy environment in creating a soundstage that comes as close to the original recorded sound. In order to make the best compromise it is needed that speakers and their positions are engineered and tested as a complete system by measuring the results in the actual car. This is exactly what Dirac (www.dirac.se) has done to create the optimum sound (no I am not an employee).
This is realized in the HiFi pro and B&O options where I agree that the additional fee of the B&O option is questionable. You made an excellent choice in changing to the HiFi professional option. This is one of the best sound options for the money.

Thanks. Am looking forward to it. I had the Logic 7 Pro in my last 545 & it was excellent.

Good news all round!

My car was built with 2 options missed off the list - 2TB (TPMS) & 620 (Voice Control). Dealer was extremely apologetic & assured me that Voice Control was actually built onto the car as it is now a standard feature (comes as part of 6NK), so I didn't have to pay for that & we negotiated a good quid pro quo for their mistake about missing the TPMS - am very happy with the resolution & the dealer's willingness to do whatever was necessary (within reason) to keep me a happy, satisfied customer.

Also, he's advised that my car docks in OZ on 6 Jan & I should take delivery within 2-3 weeks thereafter.

All good

Too late! The car's been built & is on a ship. To be honest, I had the rear sun blind in my last 2 5ers & I never used it. On the last car I tried it after 4 years & it jammed thru lack of use!!!!

Congrats, I know exactly how you feel I've only had mine for 6 days but don't regret the 20 week delay having it built to order

Well, went into the dealer today to take delivery; the car was all under wraps waiting for me & the GM welcomed me but then told me that he'd just discovered that the pre-delivery people had stuffed up & the tinting hadn't been done! Jeez I get the s**ts with people who can't do their bloody jobs properly. Anyway we went thru all the delivery paperwork & ran thru all the cars' features (God...the 6WB dash is even more stunning in real-life than the pix I've seen; the pix don't do it justice! It's so clear & colourful! Jam packed with info). The car is superb (some pix below); can't wait to get it on the road but I refused delivery until it was perfect, so now (final) delivery will be late next week after the tinting's done.

Congrats! I picked up my own carbon black 550xi this evening probably right sround the same you were at the dealer (this morning). Thinking about the time difference sort of hurts my brain.

I grabbed one off the lot. Funny: we got delivered an almost identical car at the same time on opposite ends of the planet ...

That's sort of like serendipity.

(It looks like your dealer had your ride displayed on the showroom floor. Or is that like a delivery area? It's a good looking car and would probably help out with sales - I wonder if your window tint mix-up was really an honest mistake? lol)

FYI - I did 45/25 split Wincos for tint. Looks really good.

Not sure what tint options you have available but Wincos have a blue hue which looks spectacular on Carbon Black.
