N63 ECU Flash Tune

Please bear with me with some noobish questions.

So I got together with MavRick and I drove my car and his car back to back. He has the Dinan tune on his and our cars seem to be very close in performance.

I bought preowned so I am unsure if there is a tune on the car already. Certainly it is not a piggy back.

Now the issue is, since I took my car in for dealer service and a software update, and now it feels "slower" than before. Now, there are a slew of performance robbing ailments that may exist coincidentally but I am curious if a dealer would reflash ECU with a software update? I'm assuming the software update (I asked for the steer ahead TSB) is independent from the ECU?

Another question, if indeed I have a Dinan tune, is there a way to confirm with Dinan by way of VIN?

When the dealer flashes ANY module, ISTA-P will program the ENTIRE car.

Whatever tune was on your DME was likely overwritten with factory software.

Contact Mission Performance if you want a real solid tune on your 550i.

So if indeed I have a Dinan or other tune, and he dealer erased it, do any of the tuners provide a "reflash" complimentary or reduced rates?

You'd have to explain the situation to them, but if they are a Dinan dealer they should be able to do it for you at no cost IMO.

Its not like they had a choice, even if they knew ahead of time that you had a tune on the DME. ISTA-P doesn't ask, care, or allow a work around. It just flashes any/all modules reporting an outdated version to the highest software versions.

He's not TU so Mission won't do it

call Dinan and give them your VIN. if you have their flash, then you can take it to United in Gwinnett and they will re-install for you, gratis. it WOULD be interesting to try that same test on your car, now, if the flash was indeed wiped. maybe it would show accurate boost...

So bad news.... Dinan ran my VIN, never was flashed.... bummer. I guess its either a performance malady or my foot just got used to the power??? funny how perception can become reality.

On the upside, my car has the ability to bump the power!!! I was afraid if it was indeed tuned, then I got used to the power, I can only go down a really deep rabbit hole to fulfill the power greed!!!

Looks like a piggy back or tune may be in order.

So I just was poking around under the hood tonight. I've been having a "whistling" sound as of late and I chalked it up to cold weather for no rational reason. I looked at the passenger side intake pipe, and it was not totally sealed! The rubber joint was not even completely on the plastic oval tube!

Could a leak at this point give a bit less power? I'll confirm by butt Dyno in the morning.

Yes, definitely could. That's post-MAF so any air entering through that leak is not metered air. We have a very complex load calculation system (2 MAFs and 4 MAPs haha) so it's hard to say how much of an effect it will have but definitely not good!

I'm still on the fence on whether i have a real performance reduction.... never benchmarked the boost or anything prior to my "feeling" of lower power.

Just bought JB4 today so we shall see!!!!
