535d in US when/ever?

Hey all - been waiting a while for some news/glimmer of hope. Are we going to get the F10 535d (or 540d?) in the US, and if so, when?

Or maybe I should stop waiting and order up a 535. Or 550.

It would be interesting to see how its success would be. Of course initially it would do well from the folks like some of you who have been waiting for quite some time for its release, but diesels historically just dont fare well in the US. Its hard to teach an old dog new tricks, even if its isnt grandpa's diesel.

Interesting but what about if you compare with the X5 35d?, I think that was quite a successful model since many have been sold in the past 2 years.
I think that the same numbers could apply for the F10. And also Mercedes-Benz already have a diesel version for their new E-Series, don't know what BMW is waiting for, since their diesel engine is even better.

Is that 300hp diesel getting certified for USA?
I'd love 300hp/440lb/ft torque diesel 335d for 2013..

Remember that. Don't underestimate even the 530d. Is a great engine and even smoother than 535.
I think 6.2sec from 0 to 100km/h(60miles/h) and 250km/h electronically limited maximum speed and that fenomenal torque are more than enough if we count also the medium consumption level wich is about 7.5liters of diesel for 100km or 10l/100km in city mode.

34 MPG on the highway? That's not much better than the 29 MPG I get in my petrol 535. I'd have to do the math (too lazy) to see if there's any benefit at all since diesel costs more than premium, at least around here.

are you sure you get your 29 at an average speed of 69mph (over a course of 5 hours)?? and I am sure, in germany, those guys driving floored the beast there, touching speeds like 160mph...

Absolutely. I just drove up to Los Angeles 2 weekends ago. At least for the highway portion of my trip, I averaged 30 miles per gallon (U.S.) going about 69 miles per hour average. Once I left the highway, my average went a bit lower.

I think diesel would be a bigger win in the city. Overall I average about 19 mpg (U.S.). I think that average would be higher with the diesel and I'd get even more torque.

I own a VW Jetta TDI, so I already know the tradeoffs of diesel.

Yes, diesel fuel is more expensive than premium where I live. But not that much more expensive. Last fillups: Premium unleaded was $4.30/gal. I think the shell premium diesel is about $4.50/gal. That's only a 4% difference. The diesel will definitely have greater than a 4% advantage.

I buy cheap diesel for my Jetta. It's less expensive than my premium. Not sure I would do that to a 535d though.

Maybe the 535d will be out in the U.S. when my 535i lease ends in 2 more years.

Any update on this? I'd like to get a 535d as my 3 series 335d is a little too small.

They got rid of the 3 series diesel for the new series. I heard that they will bring it back next year. I also heard that the 5 series diesel was going to be released in September 2011 and that didn't happen.

I need a bigger diesel!

There would be no 540D, 535d 2012 got the same engine as in the 640D 313 hp. I have this and it is suberb. I understand that there have wanted this in the U.S..
