Front speaker grille replacement

Anyone know how to secure replacement speaker grilles for the front speakers in the door panel, didn't realize these are fastened from the back of the panel, and I broke all the tabs off my stock ones trying to get them off... heres a pic of the new one.. I have the new ones in the door, but they are not secure, just sitting in place

These are usually melted at the ends of the tabs to secure in place. You can always use JB's PlasticBonder instead but you will need access to the back of the door panel regardless.

Yeah I had the door panels off plenty of times... makes sense about melting the post to stay in place now... I actually took all the tabs that broke off the original one and gorilla glued them back on... took about 2 hours to get it right... didn't realize they gotta be melted from inside out.... Thanks for the help!!

It's a little metal spring clip that clips onto the plastic posts of the cover. That's the official way to secure them when replacing the grilles.

Do note that the speaker covers in the doors are different for the HK/Professional vs the standard Hifi system. They may look the same at first glance but the HK ones are metal whereas the basic ones are made of plastic.

I have a do it yourself repair of how to use screws to secure the leather panel and speaker to the door card on the other forum...and if you select the hyperlink, the principle applies to the speaker grill. You'll need the items listed below rather those in the post on the other forum:

You can buy the following screws and plastic washers from Amazon.

I'll have to post the screw size for the speaker....and will you to increase the hole in the speaker cover mounts so they won't split apart when using the small screws. The plastic washers are required because the screw heads aren't wide enough to keep the heads from passing through the door panel...

- Plastic washers: Qty 50 for $5.49

- Screw: Qty 100 M2.5
