USB port charging VERY slow. Is this normal?

I just got my 2016 535i a few weeks ago and when I plug my iPhone into the usb port in the center console it charges very slow. Like 1% every 30 minutes. On the flipside it charges in my older car with a 15w charger I installed almost completely in like 30 minutes. Is this normal or do I have a bad port?

The USB port in the center console is not meant to charge. It is there for data. To charge, get one that uses the cigarette lighter port or you can convert it to USB-C

And is it functional in the data connection? I suppose a USB male to USBC female adapter that has a separate power line would do the trick if thats exists. One connected tonthe idrive input and one dedicated to charging only. Hmm. Slick.

Dual USB-C is to charge only. If you want data, you will have to get the single USB-C port. Power is from the cigarette lighter port next to it. One thing to note is you will have to trim the slit for the port very little for it to fit.

This is because every new phone uses fast charging with 2A or more current. The car's USB ports are limited to 0.5A.

I noticed the same thing in my 5 and 6 series with the NBT head unit. I recently updated my 6 series to the NBT EVO head unit and noticed it seems to have an updated usb setup and charges much quicker.
