did they replace your starter under the recall or are you still under warranty

Glad to know it wasnt just me then. My SA also mentioned that they only get parts every so often and not in bulk either.

Still under warranty. Just got the car back and she is running very strong! I will post everything changed later if anyone cares to know.

i had the 1st Stage 2 version so he sent me a brand new updated one like everyone else has. But he said mine seemed fine... lets see what happens.. my censor plugs did have water corrosion maybe that caused errors. Will have it in hands by Wednesday.

Startup

My 550xi has trouble starting sometimes- almost sounds like a diesel startup- spits and sputters.

Is this a symptom of the recall? I'm scheduled for service but not until July.

Badblack....do you remove the stage 2 every single time you go in for service? Oil changes...etc?

If so, how long does it take to remove? Trying to decide between stage 1 and stage 2.
Just got my car back on Friday after two separate visits to the dealership under this service bulletin.

this bullitin was my 1st visit to bmw i change my own oil... but i think many leave it in as long as its well hidden. stage 2 more aggressive for DD driving while on racegas they are similar. all comes down to your preference...but yes stage 1 super easy to take off.

Just installed my stage 2 today.

First of all...wow.

Secondly, no issues so far! Drove it around for 20-30 minutes and so far so good. Have the boost failsafe PSI at a 2.5 setting. Run 93 octane and no other mods other than carbon filter removed.

Think i'd be ok to run boost failsafe at 3.0? or just leave it more conservative...I don't really want to deal issues from too aggressive of settings. Not racing or anything just daily driving.

3.0 is the default you should be fine on 93

was driving and got the dreaded drivetrain malfunction warning and vehicle had no power, accompanied with studdering at low speeds. Restarting didn't fix. Wasn't driving hard and my JB4 has moderate settings. Removed the tune and will take to dealer tomorrow. My Dashcommand app showed a cylinder was misfiring.

Dealer fixed it and said it was a coil. Any chance the tune contributed to this or just coincidental?

Confirmation was given from BMW USA to US dealers that there is a bit of a parts constraint on the customer care kits being shipped.

Currently the fuel line part is only being delivered from the manufacturer at 1,500 parts per week, so BMW USA cannot ship more than that amount of kits to dealers per week (Now we know why this hasnt been released worldwide yet)

Apparently over 17,000 kits have already been installed by USA Dealers as of end February 2015

So hang in there, they are working on it.

Thanks for the info. As it has been nearly six weeks since I picked up my car after having the first portion of the Customer Care Package performed (oil change, CBS reprogramming, new battery conversion, etc.), I've been patiently awaiting a call from my dealership to get my parts updated and finally put this campaign behind me...

During the last conversation with my Service Advisor, he mentioned that there were apparently "5,600 backorders" of N63 parts in the SoCal area as part of this initiative. So, unless the supply chain speeds up in the near future, it's another round of hurry up and wait.

I just dropped my car off for the inspection visit to see what parts will need to be ordered.

They didn't give me a loaner since this visit is just the "inspection".

I asked would I be getting one on my 2nd visit to have the parts installed. He said no, they only give a loaner if I bought the car from their dealership.

I told him(service adviser) the bulletin states that I should be getting a loaner. He said he'll look into it....

Does anyone have a copy of the bulletin directly from BMW so I can show it to my service adviser?

Those of you who’ve had the work done, have your dealers affixed the below referenced label? If so, any pictures of same? Thanks.

“First check if a Service Action label with a code number 721 is already attached to the A-pillar. If a code number 721 has already been punched out, the Campaign has already been performed and no further action is necessary.”

“This Service Action has been assigned code number 721. After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-464) and:

Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
Punch out code number 721 (2), printed on the label; and
Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.”
