Very common. I couldn't stand it and painted the calipers on my car.

The fix is real easy. Get a drill and a metal brush. Grind it until all the rust is off. Make sure you have adequate protection or keep your face far enough from it. Then use high temp spray paint you can buy at autozone or advanced auto. Make sure you get several coats on it.
I did this to most of my cars and the calipers looks great. But then the inside of the wheel gets dirty and it pisses me off as it's not easy to clean in there. |

as for the inside of the wheels. the inside of my wheels are pretty clean. I clean them regularly and I use a wheel brush to get in the barrel of the wheels. I use Sonax wheel cleaner and its been great so far. cuts my wheel cleaning time and energy. |

The calipers are rusty and also the wheel hubs always look like that:
Twice a year (when changing wheels) I apply rotary steel brush to all affected pieces, than add protective sealant to wheel hubs and Hammerite high heat caliper paint to the calipers. What a boring exercise. |

My dealer said it wouldn't. However, that's not to say another delaer would not be as friendly about it. They would have to be able to prove that the caliper paint was the cause of the failure.

Under the Magnuson-Moss Act, a dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before it can deny warranty coverage. If the dealer cannot prove such a claim — or it proffers a questionable explanation — it is your legal right to demand compliance with the warranty. The Federal Trade Commission administers the Magnuson-Moss Act and monitors compliance with warranty law. If they do deny you warranty service, you have the option to sue them under the act to recover costs, including the costs of a lawyer. Why would you even frequent a dealership that you think might try to do something like this? If this is how you get treated by your dealership for warranty service, you should be complaining long and loud to BMW USA.
