Warranty gone bad! Maybe
As some of you know my car has problem with wafer leaking through the rear door panel. Well I finally took it in yesterday for warranty repair. This is my first visit to the service department since I've only own this car for two months.
They called me back this morning telling me its not under warranty because the window is tinted and that when a window is tinted the panel has been removed. I told them that the panel was not removed and that the leak happen even before I had the tint installed. They said they will charge $200 to removed the panel to check if the door has been tampered with. I told them go ahead and remove the panel because I'm confidant that no one has removed that panel. But what if for some freaken reason they call me back and tell me someone has been in there. I getting paranoid that they'll some how make it look like someone has tampered with the door and charge me. Well wish me luck people. I'll post update as soon as I find out.. |

That is complete BS and you should NOT let them roll you over with that crap. This is the first time i've heard a dealer try to deny warranty work due to window tint.

I agree with Alan. I've never heard of warranty work being denied over window tint. I could understand if they came back and denied it after finding some kind of evidence of tampering, but this doesn't sound right.
I'd escalate it.

Great news!
They opened up the panel and found no tampering. They also found that the water barrier has shifted but don't know how it happened. The great news is it'll be covered under warranty So note to people thats planning to remove their panels. Beware dealer might not cover warranty on any door problem. If they would have found my door tampered with. They said nothing would be covered like window motors or switches because door was tampered. So be very careful not to leave any signs of tampering.. |

I have a pretty solid relationship with my service department - still working on getting it to the point of my last dealer (before I moved). At my last dealer, I could have probably lit my car on fire and they would have found a way to fix it under warranty. Your relationship, like in nearly every business, has so much to do with how you're treated.
