F10's and ACS springs experience

Like most members on here , I am a research hound before I pull the trigger on something. I just put an order in for ACS springs to go on my 2012 550i. I wanted to get an idea though on the amount of people who have had issues installing these springs opposed to those who don't. There have been a few threads discussing popping and tapping noises and I am curious if this is a widespread issue or just a few unlucky members. Is there any difference between a 2011 and 2012 550 that I should be aware of in terms of spring installation? I don't want to feel like a moron for having read all these issues on the springs and then hear a steel drum band playing under the hood when I drive away. The 4x4 look drives me insane but I want to do it right. ACS gets amazing reviews but the sound issues some have had make me weary. All feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

For what its worth just pick up some rubber hoses and insert it to your ACS springs when you get them. This guarantees silent performance so you don't have to worry. Lots of springs actually comes with this. $5 part and takes a few seconds to insert them.

My ACS springs are awesome now. Perfect drop and the handling is just firm enough without sacrificing ride comfort at all. Comfort mode is still comfortable while Sport feels like how a bmw should.

I am wondering if this is isolated to the 535 springs. I never had an issue on my 550 - possibly the coil spacing and diameters are different on the 535 vs 550 due to the weight differences? I know they are different part numbers. Really like these springs

I am going to bring these issues to the attention of my installer from the beginning so he knows what to be aware of. I asked the CEC reps in Miami if they have ever experienced an issue like this and said not once. Hopefully it is just a fluke thing. I'm hoping to see more people vote considering the amount of ACS users on these forums!

I had the same concerns. I had purchased the ACS springs based on everyone's recommendations. I had a local guy put them on and was worried waiting on the results. I have not had any noise at all the the performance is unbelievable. Also the drop was perfect. It kept the great ride with the dropped looked.

Hey there,

I installed AC Schnitzer springs over a month ago and they have been great. No issues or noises at all. When i purchased mine I had not heard anything about the noise but shortly after my install I read about two or three instances where the springs were making noise. Before I bought mine I did about three months of research and never saw one post complaining about noises from the springs, so this may be an isolated issue. If you want great handling, great comfort and a substantial drop without looking slammed; these are your springs.

Here are some photos of the drop of my car with ACS springs and 21" wheels.

Good luck.

I have a 535i and have not had any noises coming from the springs.

i've contacted a few that have the noise and were 550's and non xdrive as well.

Like i said the springs are awesome and adding a rubber hose into the top two coils eliminates all possibilities for any noise. Could be installer error or could be just manufacturing differences. Could also be some people are more sensitive to noise than others. Its not loud but if you have the radio off you can hear it over certain light bumps. Personally i doubt so many installers made the same error so i think its the springs. I would add the rubber sleeve even if they didn't make noise since that only helps prevent noise in the long run.

Thanks for the replies. I will make sure to post pics and give my experience in a week or so when the springs finally get in!
