Tyre Insurance - just got mugged...

Driving to work this morning the "pressure loss" indicator came on and indicated a puncture on the rear n/s. No problem I thought, I took out the tyre insurance policy when I got the car last year.

I'd read that a few people had issues claiming so I thought I'd do it through a dealer Scotthall in Milton Keynes. Dropped the car off and got a call 10 mins ago stating the claim had been approved - great I thought. Then came the sting, "the claim is approved for £300 so there is just £100 to pay" I indicated it was only one tyre that needed replacing. The line went a little blue... over a barrel comes to mind.

£250 fitted in Kwik fit if I'd gone there.

Bottom line if you have the insurance don't get the tyre changed at a dealership and when I go M5 shopping later in the year it won't be there...

I would have told them to take it off again and stick it where the sun don't shine!!!
Unbelievable price difference!

I picked up my april '10 525dSE at the weekend and i took out the tyre insurance also. On sunday I got the message appear on the dash about low pressure and i seem to have a slow puncture on the drivers rear as i've topped it up a couple of times. Not pleased to read your experience

I just picked up my 535d M Sport with 19" 351M wheels. I bought the tyre insurance, but after reading about your experience I'm not sure if I should cancel?

Which tyre did they replace? My local independent could supply and fit the front 245/40 R19 for around £250 and the rear 275/35 R19 for £325. The dealer prices for tyres seem outrageous. I suppose you could ask to use an independent fitter, but I guess that would make the claims process difficult.

Complete waste of money.

They also limit you to one repair on each corner.

What are the chances of getting all 4 needing a repair? slim to none.

Even I bought the tyre and alloy wheel insurance when I took delivery of my car, however when I received the policy document few days later I realised that the terms are not favourable at all. First of all, you always have to call them first and they will direct you to their authorised tyre dealer, then the dealer will have to call them back to get the authorisation code before any work can be started and to top it all, their call centres work only between 9:00 to 17:00 Mon-Fri.
What is the probability of having a flat tyre between these times? Almost none in my case because I start very early for office and while returning i have never started before 17:00.
The end result, I cancelled the policy, god save the FSA and 14 day cooling off period
