how many miles before turbo gives out?

would love to get a 535i for a daily but i'm wondering about the longevity of the turbos. anyone who's had long term experience with stock turbo'ed cars care to share their experiences? i tend to keep my cars for awhile and want the 535i but might have to go with the 528 for it's NA reliability.

The 528i has been turbo for a couple years. Unless you are going to buy in the used market.

New or used market? To what sort of mileage do you intend to keep the car? Those questions would be more important to me than "how long is a piece of string?" As how we drive the engine and service it have a bigger part to play than mileage, or time.

My family have run dozens of turbo engines, (mostly diesel) over years of use not had one turbo failure.

was looking at '11 528 vs 535. let's assume an average driver, driving style etc with good maintenance routines. ideally would like to keep a car for the long haul, ie >200k miles.

It will last, unless it doesn't.

Had a 2004 Mercedes E55 AMG for 10 years/ 85,000 miles. No issues at all with Supercharger or engine.
