Creaking noise around top of driver's door

In the past few days I've noticed a kind of creaking noise at my right ear. It seems to be coming from around the B-pillar or perhaps the door seals. It is most noticable when moving of or going slowly over rough ground.
Has anyone else noticed this and pinpointed the source?

Me too. I think it's flex in the body surprising given the tortional strength of the car.

I know this sounds weird.....but check your sun visors. Not sure why, but mine make creaking noises and occasionally have to swing them down for a brief second, to break the bond they make with the headliner. I thought the noise was coming from the B pillar also, until I discovered this anomoly.

Cheers, I'll check that out, but it really does sound like it's coming from just behind my ear.

Mine has creaking / clicking noises from both B pillars. It seems to be from where the seat belts are attached. If I pull the seat belt out a bit while driving, the noise all but stops.

I have complained to the dealer who said they hadn't come across this noise before but they are going to look at it when it goes in to get the gearbox reset and steering alignment done next week.

Right. I've had this with every recent 5 series including the F10. After much research it turns out to be the rubber door seals. Question: Have you waxed / polished the inside of your door sills? This is what causes the problem. My local dealership advised to clean any wax off the rubbers with methylated spirits and also wipe the paintwork where the rubbers meet to clean any wax off there as well, especially the pillars. After doing this all creaks stop. The rubbers need to grip the paintwork, if you wax it they have a tendency to slip causing the creaks whenever you go over rough roads or ground. Give it a try. Hope it works.

What you are saying makes sense. I have the same issue as described by Dom, and I have applied Gummy Pfledge (http://www.einszett.com/website/katalog_en.pdf) to the rubber seals around my doors to protect them..... probably creating this noise problem in the process :-(

I've also had this problem on previous 550i's and the seals were the problem. Make sure they're clean!! This should fix the problem.

I suffered with this problem for ages. Eventually the mechanic from the dealer sat in the rear seat whilst i drove for around 20 mins. He heard the noise, i was more of a crack than a creak.. It was something behind the trim on they b pillar that was causing the sound. They fixed it and it has never returned..

I also suffer this problem which i believe from the application of paint protection sealant to the door seal paint/rubber. What kind of methylated spirits would you recommend to clean off the sealant from rubber and paint? Can I use those methylated spirits from the DIY shops? Will that causes damage to the rubber/paint?

Many thanks for any help/advice.

That sounds exactly like the noise I have started to hear from the area of the front door / B pillar over the last week or so -will get dealer to investigate but it goes in for oil service in Oct

Hi guys, for your info I used Fairy liquid to remove the Zaino sealant layer on the door sill/rubber seal, it worked like magic!!! Since then, the squeaky noise has ALL GONE! If you have the same problem, please give it a go and it might solve it quick and easy! ; )

had same creak noise in my 2011 535.
dealer applied teflon tape
noise better but still there.
service manager states it is not rubber door seals, but is body flex ?
states there is no known fix
except appling more tape in different areas.
my first BMW-may be my last.

Have the same issue, dealer removed the cover in the B pillar and put some lubricant in some areas with contact, but as I thought my issue is more toward the top rather than the side, hence issue not resolved for me, from other treads I read this can be down to the sun roof, in other words if you do have sun roof the noise maybe coming from few screws that can be seen when you open the roof by few inches along the front side, apparently the solution is to unscrew them tiny bit to stop the friction between the materials behind the noise. I am about to try this over the xmas period and see if this resolve this very annoying noise playing on my nerves.

Holy S! I have the same issue and its been driving me mad! I found the noise but I cant make it go away. I took the light out that is inside the headliner behind the visor and there are some bolts with a plastic coating that are rubbing against the headliner! I literally stuffed a piece of cardboard between the bolt and the headliner and it stopped for a while but then started near the top handle in the roof. If anyone has a similar noise let me know how you fixed it....
