Progress Pics. 3" exhaust with Xpipe

Specs:
* Full 3" from the downpipes
* Custom xpipe muffler
* Resonators
* Twin tips
* Dinan Stage 3 flash

So far the set-up is producing a smoother transition from launch to top speed.

Droning is present on part throttle load and in between shift changes. Particularly on the lower rpms 1500-4000 and in 4-7th gear. But once I smash the pedal, the tone that comes out of the exhaust is similar to my friends GTR. I had a hard time figuring out who was louder on the highway during a comparison test.

To control the drone, we will be adding two more mufflers after the rear axles. We are hoping to capture the really deep tone that is being produced from the Xpipe. It is so deep that I can feel a slight vibration on the center arm rest and also resonates throughout the trunk then to the cabin area.

I honestly don't mind the occasional drone, but since I see my self driving part throttle 90% of the time, I prefer to eliminate it. It's loud on cold start ups but purrs really nice when warmed up. Hopefully I don't lose to much of the full throttle sound once we add the mufflers.

I'll post the new set-up next week..

Thanks to Hanksville Hotrods in Denver for the excellent work.

Thanks for sharing your progress. Instead of adding a second muffler, have you thought about incorporating the valves from the stock exhaust?

Good thought but I need to keep the stock exhaust complete in case I trade or sell the car again. Not much room left to put secondary mufflers so I may throw a set of OEM M5 mufflers on there or a custom set.

So far its at $2600 as is. The additional cost of two extra mufflers will probably add another $400+. My original plan was just to get the Dinan mufflers which was going to cost about the same as this entire system. I'm all about Dinan with their packages but I just could not justify $3K for mufflers. I knew I can get more for that much money. All custom fit, mandrel bent, great finish work. My custom exhaust is justifiable for the cost.

Damn, I think the full, lite speed exhaust is half that with no drone.

According to what others have posted, the Litespeed does drone.

BTW,even though his title say 535i, I'm pretty sure that's a 550i on the lift. That's not how the front piping looks like on the inline 6.

Correct this is a 550i. Xdrive. I contacted Litespeed but their fitment was for the non xdrive models. It may have worked but he was not sure. Given the waitlist plus the possibility of modifying their exhaust to fit xdrive was not on my agenda. I got too impatient. Not their fault at all.

Links below are the updated pics and videos from Hanksville. I thought it would be louder from the Xpipes but it actually has a very nice tone when on full throttle.. Custom mufflers are in the works next week to eliminate the in cabin drone.
