AR Down Pipes Catteded Vs Catless for N63

Hey Guys looking to get downpipes for my 2013 550. I'm stuck between the AR Catted and Catless downpipes. Has anybody owned (maybe even a different company) both catted and catless downpipes and can weigh in on the pro's and cons of each?

Any input is appreciated!

Looking to do a custom exhaust possibly meistershaft mufflers.

most of my research as been showing minimal gains with replacing the stock post cat exhaust, so I had just planned on catless downpipes with the stock exhaust, and maybe someday building something cool out of boredom. If I like the sound I will probably leave it, if I don't then I will build something neat!

I run Catted down pipes from AR... car sounds much better even with stock exhaust but i recommend something more free flowing.

Pros: No CEL Light, No Smell, i hold 1/4 for N63 even with catted down pipes... but i would be faster catless that's for sure.

Cons: Not as fast as with catless

Pros to add: Not worrying about getting pulled over by Tax Collector

Well yea not the sound itself, but from what I heard Tax Collectors have check-points and if they smell that fuel in our high collections states (NJ/NYC) in 1 of those points, they will impound your car supposedly. Something to do with emissions.
This same reason why I want to go catted.

how can you guys live in that commie state? I love my guns, my freedom to mod my car, and not donating the majority of my paycheck to taxes so other people get free stuff!

Im sure all states have had them at one time or another, here they were called "Smog Dogs"... basically vans or devices setup with sniffers in low speed areas (for us it was onramps to freeways), if you exceeded a value, it snapped a picture and sent it to the MVD, which in turn required you to get your emissions done if your vehicle required it. I haven't seen one in probably 10-12 years though so I'm guessing it was a pilot project that never took off.

I've only seen these "Smog Dogs" in LA and mainly on the west coast. I had HFC and then test pipes on my g37 here in NY and never had an issue. Inspection was a hassle but never had any debt collector problems and my car was LOUD... lol

I have catless, and I can tell you it sounds and performs amazing.
I know badblack has a catted downpipe and he also reports gains.

So you have to ask yourself if the Smell will bother you, because if you like to cruise w/windows down.. the smell is very noticeable, I'm use to it and dont really mind. But its there, and the only drawback.

If I were to do it again, I would go catless, costs less, more gains, windows up.

AJ said they both make the same gains and the cats really dont restrict flow (thats more the norm these days, cats arent nearly as restrictive as they were 20 years ago, especially metallic cats used in most aftermarket converter setups), but im with you, significantly cheaper for "off road" downpipes, and I still have a factory exhaust so im not worried about the sound now. Since he can shut the codes off in the tune, no reason for me not to go that route. Cant be worse than my old car with off road xpipe and running E85!

Could be! We had a democrat here in office for a while... been smooth sailing since the republicans took control! No gun laws, no car laws, and out of county has zero emissions rules.

Rob, its the wild wild west out here... FANTASTIC roads too! Nice and quiet everywhere you drive, no permit required to conceal and carry, open carry is legal, can shoot off road just about anywhere, gun stores and performance shops all over, a dyno ever 5 miles... tough to beat this state for freedom and hobbies, plus I think the coldest day I saw this winter was mid 50s for a couple days and a combined 7 days of rain since november.

but if you have issues with the sun or heat, you will die.
