Dynamic Drive Malfunction
This has happened to me twice now. The root cause was not determined the first time (October timeframe) and software was to blame. The second time this occurred (mid Dec), the service dept's root cause analysis was the 'valve block'. Unfortunately, the service department told me that valve block is on backorder and I've been driving with a malfunctioned 'dynamic drive' and the car is very floaty. They have yet to give me an ETA date.
Anyone else experience this? The disheartening part is that in addition to these two occurences, I've already had an oil leak that had to be repaired as well. So, since August, the car has been in the shop multiple times. |

Any chance you've also experienced the "grinding noise" posted in this forum as well? Some of the comments seem to link that noise to the valve block.

A member on bimmerfest named Solstice has had the same issue as you. It appears to be separate from the grinding issue that everyone else(myself included) is having. In his case they had to replace the ARS pump. The reason the car feels so floaty is that you have no Active Roll Stabilization so its wallowing like a ship at sea. He is in the process of executing a buyback with BMWNA and I would suggest you pursue the same course. You dont want to have to deal with a lemon. If you like the car have them replace it but dont keep a car that could cause you more headaches down the road. Good Luck

I had the same problem with my 2011 550i. I purchased mine in July 2010. I complained about the car pulling to the right and it took the dealer two weeks to reprogram. The car was also aligned. It still pulls to the right. In January, the car gave me a warning of dynamic system failure. I took it to the dealer, they said the car needed hydraulic oil which they added. Three days later, my garage floor was full of oil. I took it to the dealer again. It was there for three weeks. They first replaced the valve block which had to be ordered from Germany. Then they replaced the power steering pump. I told them to take the car back since i could not believe all the issues with such an expensive car. Plus i was concerned with my safety. BMW refused to exchange vehicle. We have been purchasing BMW in our household for the past 10 years and currently own 3 bimmers. What a way to treat a loyal customer! Looks like this will be our last BMW.

Forgot to mention that the factory equipped tires on this vehicle are also a problem. The goodyear excellence is a below par tire, non befitting for a BMW. These tires bubble up like bubble gum! I had to get all four tires replaced with Bridgestone Potenzas within the first week after purchasing vehicle.

My 535xi has been in the shop for a week already since (2/9/11). A 19" tire is the first problem. I have the insurance so thats no problem except for the fact that I have to wait for the tire. We all know about the lack of a supply. Ok, now there are techs checking out my car for an electrical problem which I had no indication of until they got hold of it. They say there is a fault code for a malfunction. It's a new car so they aren't sure whats going on...That's what I'm hearing. When I find out I'll let you all know |

It must come from Germany (5-7 days). So i'm looking at 2 weeks w/o my car. I do have a 3 series loaner. |

Now going into week 3. DME(?) has not arrived from Germany as it is specific ti each vehicle. This is my first BMW. Not sure I'd get another one.!? I'm tired & hate the thought of spending so much money and 3 months in & so much trouble. I am trying to get some kind of compensation for this (& no I am not talking a key chain or a mug). Anyway I want to drive "MY CAR" not a 3 series loaner!

If you've financed the car through BMW finance, you can ask for some compensation on your payments.
Sorry to hear about your issues. It's no fun that's for certain. |

I dealt with this issue Easter morning. Car had just left Weatherford BMW on Friday evening. Will I'll say this the Dynamic Drive malfunction light as well as Charging malfunction red symbol. It was a belt and whatever else they changed thAT and whole alternator. Not sure what caused it but glad I took in because it was just there and I hAve extended warranty cost 0. Its worth getting those lights checked also steering was near impossible
