Soon To Be F10 owner
Hello all,
I am a new member to the forums. Let me introduce myself: My name is Steve, I'm 23, and reside in Westchester, New York. Ill cut this short. My parents leased me a 2013 Honda Ridgeline as a graduation present. The lease is about to be over and the title will be transferred to my name. With a KBB value of ~$24,000, I will be able to trade this vehicle in for a one owner 2011-2012 F10 535I x-drive with ~40,000-50,000 miles. I have always wanted a BMW and with that being said, in approximately 4 weeks I should have my hands on an Alpine White F10. This is my first BMW, and I plan on building this F10 to as much as I can afford. I have some questions that hope can get answered. 1. How do you guys feel about the 535I X drive's fuel economy? 2. How would you rate the reliability after or around 50,000 miles? 3. What details should I specifically look for when shopping for a used F10 4. How would you rate the X-drive AWD system in snow accumulations greater than 2". Thank you |

1. MPG: Reasonable - I get about 30 mpg on the highway 2. Reliability: I only have 40K miles on mine - no issues so far. 3. Must-Haves: The dynamic handling package (with adaptive drive and active role stabilization) is considered by some, including me, as a 'must have' for an x-drive. Comfort seats are also very good. 4. Snow: X-drive with snow tires is simply unstoppable. I drive mine through 6+ inches of snow in Canadian winters with no drama. Without exaggerating, this is the best car in snow I've ever owned.

30 MPG!!! That sounds like a dream!!
I get 17 MPG right now and it's horrible. I want to buy Msport wheels and keep the stocks for winter with snow tires. If it can beat Canadian winters than I shall have no issue. |

1. I don't have AWD, but fuel economy is impressive considering the engine/power in these cars. I'm averaging 23 in my daily commute, mix of open road and city driving, 29 highway, but NEVER really trying to save, mostly "spirited" driving.
2. Reliability is hit and miss, hard to predict, but they can be a bit of trouble. 3. If you can find one with DHP, I'd highly recommend it. 4. I'm in the same city as cdmulders except with RWD, harsh and snowy Canadian winters. You've got nothing to worry about with AWD and good winter tires. Good luck. Try cars.com and bmwusa through the preowned search tool and you can specify which options you want to search by... Good luck! Very exciting time. Last edited by chrisny; 06-29-2015 at 09:39 AM.. |

Yes very exciting, moving from a Honda to a BMW. I had two Infiniti's before but nothing can top German ingenuity.
BMW CPO is much more expensive than cars.com. I was specifically looking at this one. http://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/de...1695/overview/ I am going to aim for the white car with black accents look. Sharp color combo. |

I was in a similar situation as you i went from an infiniti fx35 07 with 115k on it got awesome trade in it for my 2012 f10 535 it took me 8 months to pull the trigger cuz i was looking for msport also but lile u said very rare around our area until i came across my car although it is a classic model i got the cinnamon interior which i either wanted that or red, but i also had many other options that jus were to good to pass up like cold weather auto doors n trunk with comfort access dynamic handling and adaptive headlights etc(also it was one owner 54yrs old everything done at rallye so it was too good a model to pass up) suspension and brakes could def be upgraded especially at the 100 and over mark and slowing down...i kinda wish i would have found a 550 in my price range bc i test drove a higher mileage one and fell in love with the raw power but i didnt want a car with more than 50k.....anyway i get about 25 highway n 17ish in city im always on sports mode n transmission dont get me wrong love my car great mixture of luxury n speed my brothers 335 f30 def satisfies the speed part better just lacking in luxury i have been hearing jb4 stage 2 with downpipe and charge pipe willl make me feel differently but good luck on your search

A 535I-x M-sport is extremely rare around here. I searched a 200 mile radius and only found one but had too high miles for my liking. The 550I-X is less rare but still hard to come bye. I'm fine with a non-msport from now, still a fantastic vehicle! I plan on selling this car in 2 years and hopefully have money saved for a 6 series or maybe something Italian

1. How do you guys feel about the 535I X drive's fuel economy? It depends on how you drive, but plan on low 20's. I drive 80% city and don't drive the car very hard and get in the 19's, and that's on a rwd car. Xdrive would be worse.
2. How would you rate the reliability after or around 50,000 miles? It's a BMW. Just average reliability and very expensive. Plan on buying an extended warranty 3. What details should I specifically look for when shopping for a used F10. Get DHP on an xDrive. The standard suspension is decent, but very floaty and not very secure in emergency maneuvers (pretty scary if you ask me). DHP was called something different prior to 2013 - part of the sport package. Also, I would avoid the 2011's and get a 2012. The first model year F10 has issues. Some of which have been resolved, others haven't. |

Hey man, I'm in NY as well and I think the 535i xdrive is great. Realistic NY gas mileage is around 21mpg. I was able to get as much as 27mpg on long drives out to Jersey shore with moderate spirited speeds. Awd is pretty good in the snow esp coupled with snow tires.
Are you looking to trade or purchase out right? I have a CPO, low mileage 535i Msport with some mods that I'm thinking of selling if you are interested. I'm looking to move up to an M5 . Pm me if you want more details |

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, after some research it looks like the 2012 seems to be a better buy. I was looking at the 528's as well but for the same price I may as well get a 535. My driving ratio is like 90% highway and 10% city so seems like I will get decent MPG. Expensive maintenance expected but I wasn't expecting maintenance at such "low" miles other than normal upkeep (oil changes, tire rotations etc). Please give more details lol |

I think there are similar sites for other brands and maybe some for any brand but not all are free. Pretty helpful and from what I've seen and heard, accurate. Dealer listings don't alway mention everything and aren't always accurate, but the VIN doesn't lie..
