Mixing body mods??

I'm curious what others think about mixing manufacturers when it comes to body mods??? I really like the Vorsteiner front splitter, but Vorsteiner is expensive!!! I was thinking about using that front spoiler and the Agency Power diffuser and trunk lid with integrated spoiler, and a Seibon hood.

I know there are differences in CF weave and patterns, but I'll be color-matching my body mods to the car since mine is carbon black and I think CF looks terrible on it. Plus, I want to keep the elegance, preferring it look like it could have come from the factory this way.. I photoshopped a few pics to get an idea of how this will look. I'm still working on the image from the front... What do you think?

Agreed... If you're looking for a more factory look, that's pretty far off- to each his own!

sooo... painting the CF looks ricey??? or mixing body mods does? What makes this setup more ricey than others? Don't get me wrong, I'm going to go with what I like in the end, but I don't understand what looks ricey here?

I think the front spoiler photoshop looks good, but the hood is a little too custom and over the top IMO which is what I think they're seeing as "ricey."

The rear shot is kinda dark but the tips looks way too huge and the spoiler a little more dramatic than other lower profile options.

These are just opinions though and like you said; you'll go with what you like in the end. Plus, photoshop doesn't necessarily do your ideas justice since its not 100% accurate.

Agree with Die Wolfe. I also don't care for the hood and exhaust tips, but I especially don't like the wheels. But it might just be my advancing age (I'm 58). Maybe 30 years ago I would have thought that was the coolest car I ever saw! Oh, to be young again...

It is hard to get a good photoshop representation. The hood actually isn't all that dramatic. Agency Power makes one, but to me it was too dramatic. Here's the actual Seibon hood:

The trunk does look quite dramatic in this photo, but not so much from other angles. Here it is before i photoshopped it:

Notice the exhaust tips weren't changed except their color

Here's another angle:

Can't tell how huge tips are without a rear shot....they don't like any bigger than say a Dinan exhaust tip or Eisenmann so they might be OK.

However, the vents in the hood are ricey...front lip looks ricey, too. I truly believe the M-Sport or M5 front bumper are the sole way to go. Front lips/spoilers have been out of style for 5-10 years now. Again....just my 0.02.....but I think the rear carbon fiber looks a bit ricey, too. I don't get the fascination with CF on some parts of the car. The whole point of CF is to reduce weight. It looks cool....on the interior....but not the exterior unless the car is made that way (for instance....M6 roofs).

I don't think there is ever an issue itself with mixing manufacturers of exterior mods as long as the finished product flows....however, it's pretty rare on any car to be able to mix a few different manufacturers and still have it look right.

I feel darker colors are harder to mod (unless you are blacking it out) than a white or silver...where a couple simple contrasts (say a carbon fiber lip spoiler and black rims on a white/silver/lighter color car) go a long way.

In the end, it's your car and you should do what you like.

Do what you like and don't worry so much about what others think. If you like it, that's all that matters. After all, it's your car.

I don't think the carbon fiber parts look "ricey". I've seen past 5'rs change out their hood equipped with vents, and no one says that it looks "ricey". So, why not do it to the current 5? Do what you like to your 5...

I've never seen previous 5's or 7's go with hood vents....and if they did, it would look as silly.

The cars I know that have vents on the hood are the Benz SL....Jag XKR....maybe supercharged XF.

It may not be ricey in that it has stickers on it and has huge green spoilers.....but vents rarely make the car look better or tougher.

I personally like M Sport or M5 front bumper.....MSport rear valance (looks better than M5) with four pipe exhaust (Dinan, Eisenmenn)...black trunk lid spoiler. I've seen too many people on here put exhaust tips on.....that look added on.....they either are sticking out too far...or they have the wrong valance installed.

I might see how the M performance parts are....I think they have a front spoiler but it seemed a bit ricey, too.....I'd have to see it in person.

I like the front spoiler but the rear is too big. It interrupts the flow of the car. Maybe if it were a track car, but then few F10s are. I don't care for the hood treatment. The F10 hood lines are one of its best features and the non-functional holes detract from it. I mean no disrespect - just my opinion. 550 is a sweet ride either way.

Mixing and matching is fine as long as it flows. I've always done this with all of my cars to create a more unique combination.

One thing to keep in mind with Carbon Fiber parts that have a big flat surface (e.g. Hood, trunk, roof etc..) is that unless its ultra high quality it will look a bit wavy when you look at it from an angle. i would say 99% of all carbon hoods that ive seen is like this. It doesn't bother some but for me i would not do it on a 70K car. You can still see it after you painted it unless the body shop does some extensive prep work on it. Basically they need to add a skim coat over the entire surface, sand and then primer it to make it all even again.

Very good information Alan. I appreciate everyone's feedback! My 550 is stock at the moment, but I plan full DINAN upgrades to push it beyond the M5, so while it's not a track car and never will be, hood vents do allow heat to escape, and any weight reduction on this 4400lb car can't hurt. I'll be sure and pay a little extra if necessary to get the prep work done correctly.
