DIY-ish to Vinyl Wrap BMW F10

I thought I can make a thread for how to wrap a BMW F10 5-series car. I've never done it before but I plan to in the future (hence the DIY-ISH). I have spent time researching and looking up information to prepare myself and thought I should share it. The way I intend to format this is buy bullet point of information I know so far. I'm assuming figuring out the steps is self explanatory.
  • I think I want to share this, YouTube BMW Playlist, first. It's a collection of all the videos I found interesting related to the F10, from exhaust to wheels to whatever, but it's mainly wrap related videos.
  • DOOR HANDLES: I know a lot of people are wondering, "How the **** am I suppose to remove the door handles?" Well, I found this nice DIY for the F10.
  • SHARK FIN: Guide
  • Here's another guide on how to do the chrome on the door handles.
  • I have found two playlists just about wrapping a car. HEXIS and ARLON
  • UPDATE: I have found links of someone removing door handles but the quality is whack. I assume that this combined with the guide, it is self explanatory. Link 1 - removal. Link 2 - attaching. Note that the screw is T15 and that it is captive. So it won't fall out when unscrewing it. I will confirm once I work on the car.

I can say as a beginner you should stick with a 3M product. They stick better then the others and are easier to use. Take your time and you'll do fine, the product is amazing. Do each piece separate, smallest piece at a time, don't be a hero!

-Cleaning the car is key, especially all of the edges where it wraps around.
-A good heat gun is needed. The vinyl will stretch a lot but will eventually give.
-Vinyl has memory so of it gets out of hand lightly heat it and it will return to its original flat shape.
-Be patient, take your time and don't get frustrated.
-Vinyl is not paint so you may get it 99% but there will usually be tiny defects.
-25 yards is needed to wrap a car.
-Anything matte color will look like a wrap, but gloss looks more like paint.

The blue you are doing is our fleet color, nice color but it's bright and you may get sick of it quickly. My car is wrapped in Avery because they make the nicest shades of grey, but Avery is hard to work with and doesn't stick as well.

Hope this helps

I got the approval from the Dad to do this. I'll be attempting to wrap my car during Winter Break this December! Color suggestions? I really want to do Matte Metallic Blue but I feel like it's getting popular. I want something eye catching but not too much. Like no chrome blue but also no matte black lol.

Subscribed. I'd like to do this as well. Too bad it's winter here and I have to space to leave my car apart. I might tackle this one part at a time. The bumpers and handles are prolly the most diffucult pieces Keep us posted.

Obviously I want blue, mainly because it's my favorite color. I actually want blue chrome but it will be expensive and it will also scratch fairly easily over the years.

Depends on the brand but I read that someone here on the forum used Avery wrap and it costs about $570-$600 in material to wrap the car. Not that bad, just have to make time to do the work yourself. Best bet is to get yourself a buddy and supply the beers and get to work lol. I'm definitely wrapping my car in the springtime I can't wait.

Holy $hit balls I got quoted $2500 for a wrap job! Does it really cost this much? Or is this considered cheap? I don't know but figured I'd tell you by guys!

The price of a GOOD quality wrap job starts around $2k but can go up easily. Like if you want chrome, it's around $4.5k. If you want the door jambs done, it's a few hundred extra.

I think buying all the supplies and everything should be no more than $700. I guarantee no more than $1000

I agree. You save about 50-60%. You bond with the car. You appreciate your hard work so you're more likely of taking care of it.

My personal two reasons why I'm doing it is because 1. I want to change the color of the car to something eye catching
2. It protects the paint of the car.
