2011 F10 530D Owners Survey Please
As an award winning post genius. I decided to post another.
Um... To help myself mainly. But.. well, you know. OK - so go to your 2011 3ltr d car. Sit in start engine, drive till warm. Brake, leave car in drive with foot on brake. Does your car, shake, shimmy, wiggle, wobble, splutter, pulse!? I tested another 2011 which actually is for sale and it shakes on idle in drive mode. I have had my gearbox replaced. Problem better but still there. NO answers from BMW. See survey. |

Mine doesn't shake or shimmy but you can feel the engine running through the steering wheel. Its not that noticeable but you can deffinately tell its a diesel motor under the bonnet.

What engine vibration? One reason I chose the silky smooth N55 petrol engine.
I 'back to back' tested a demo 530d and 535i, there was quite a noticeable difference in NVH to cabin and driver, via steering wheel and left foot rest. HighlandPete |

The unrefined vibration, shake, and noise is what keeps me away from diesel engines, even as good as BMW has been about controlling those aspects. They're still not anywhere near as refined as their unleaded gasoline counterparts. Then again, MPGs aren't my biggest concern - while I'd like to get the best mileage possible, power and refinement of power delivery are going to rank higher on the priority list.
Electric motors are actually the pinnacle here - super quiet, refined, and amazing power. The only noise I'd actually miss is the exhaust... which I hope someone can solve with a convincing argument for making an electric engine sound like a combustion engine!

Don't get a shake, there is a slight vibration but thats because drive us selected and the car is trying to move forwards. Same with auto hold engaged, more exaggerated on the diesel as it has more torque and more natural pull without throttle input although I agree petrols are more refined.
However I drive a truck during the day so after jumping into the 5 after work it just feels soo good |

No shake, shimmy anything here, just smooth loveliness.
Is it the same engine in the US spec. 530d?

N57 engine I think.. hmmm
Well it had a new gearbox, that seemed to solve most of it. Now somedays is just "on" others it seems to splutter occassionally. Looks like looong road. You guys in your petrols |

2011 535i and I got she wiggles (non std type). Cars actually at the shop right now.
Not sure if it has to do with that "hit the peddle and stuttering engine" issue. But the idle has always been kinda rough in my opinion. The 428 loaner I have is silly smooth.
