Shell now being using instead of Castrol by BMW Service
From the beginning of 2015, BMW have dropped Castrol as their oil supplier and are now using Shell both for new cars and servicing.
There was some speculation on this forum that they would retain a supply of Castrol for servicing of cars still under warranty rather than mix synthetic oil technologies inside the engine. I can confirm that this is not the case. I dropped my 2014 F11 in for its first service and they told me they used Shell to replace the Castrol that came in the engine when new. |

There are multiple threads on the. on the forum.
Yes, the new Shell GTL oil from Qatar is used for all dealer servicing with regional additives added to the base oil at one of the 4 distribution centers worldwide. No Castrol at any of the dealers and latest oil caps just show a oil can instead of saying Castrol is reccomended

What do you mean by "mix synthetic oil technologies in the engine"? There would be absolutely no harm in mixing castrol and shell/pennzoil oils or using one after the other has been drained.

^^ The situation would occur when a dealer is adding oil in between oil changes (adding Shell oil to an engine that already has Castrol in it), but there's no issue with mixing the two.
