My New F10 520d M Sport Auto

Picked up my 520d M Sport Sport Auto on Jan 8th.

So far it has been absolutely everything I expected, comfortable, torquey and sporty when required.

I am averaging 6.8 Lt/100 KM (41.5 UK MPG, 34.5 US MPG) with a mixture of 130KM/h on motorway and 110 KM/H on back roads. The consumption has ranged from 6.2 Lt/100Km to 7.2Lt/100Km. I have 1700Km on her now. I am very pleased with this considering the M Sport has 275/40/18’s on the back.

Love the look and feel of the car, the steering is a little light at centre but not as numb as the SE on 17” wheels with non M-Sport suspension I had on demo. I do have the whistle from the air vents when at 4 bars and above (Std A/C), no side pull or any of the other issues discussed as yet.

The Oyster/Black has exceeded my expectations in the flesh and it goes really well with the space grey which also shows off the cars curves very well.

Minor gripes so far would be the phone sync with my desire HD, it only shows up contacts whereas on my previous E72 I had messages and calendar so I hope a S/W upgrade down the road sorts that for Android phones. Music on the USB is excellent although it takes a while to get where you want via iDrive. So some short-cuts to be programmed this weekend!!

I am really glad I went with the sports auto, the difference when you switch to sport is very noticeable even on a 520d and takes the car from being pedestrian to being great fun.

The ambient lighting option which gives the chrome on the door handles as well as the beautiful lighting inside is a must have.

I washed her for the first time on Sunday and there is a lot of metal real estate to get around compared to my E90. One thing I noticed even at this early stage is the amount of tar getting kicked up onto the body work by the tyres. The 275 rears in particular are problematic as they extend beyond the wheel-arches. I need to talk to the dealer about the value of mud-flaps, he told me not to bother when I was ordering.

So far so FANTASTIC!!! Oh Yeah, my neighbours think the guy in the red suit delivered it…

Congrats!

Wow! Congrats on the new car, it looks fantastic. I used to own a 08 E60 M-Sport and am waiting to take delivery of my new F10 M Sport any day now. Its also space grey and I too went for the oyster / black combination.

I haven't heard much about the M-sport suspension and wasn't sure if I thought it was a little stiffer than the E60 M Sport suspension when I test drove it. What are your thoughts on this? Is it uncomfortable?

I loved the stiffened suspension on the E60 and when i drove a standard suspension F10, it was very floaty. The F10 M Sport suspension was far superior in my opinion.

I know how you feel! I ordered mine at the start of October and the wait is killing me. It has been sitting at some port in the UK for the past two weeks. Apparently, there is a three week backlog in clearing the 5 series through the Uk since the bad weather before christmas. I'm told that the car may be available for collection on Saturday but if not, it'll probably be next Tuesday. I'm surprised that the order tracking system isn't able to give more accurate information regardless of any supposed backlog?

Thanks, It looks even better in the flesh. Funnily I haven't seen a photo yet that does the colour justice.

I fin d the M Sport suspension very comfortable sporty enough for me but probably not as hard as the E60. The grip on the rear is superb with the larger tyres.

Ordered mine on the 5th September and it was in Dublin before Christmas. I went in to the dealer to see it a few times before I picked it up with the 11 plates.

That was a long time to wait but from the photos it looks like it was definitely worth the wait. If it looks better than this in the flesh it must be spectacular! You should try some tyre shine e.g. Wet n'black by turtle wax and some carnauba wax for the paintwork. It makes a huge difference, trust me.

I'm glad to hear the suspension is ok. I've ordered the 19" wheels so hopefully they'll be comfortable.

I know it's a matter of personal taste but for me space grey is the perfect colour to show the curves of the car. The oyster / black interior with space grey is fabulous.

I went for the ambient light package, 19" wheels, sunroof, visibility package, spoiler, paddleshift auto, fineline anthracite trim and Matt aluminum exterior trim. after seeing yours I'm even more excited about taking delivery of mine.

The carnauba wax Ive bought is pinnacle souverain paste wax and is approx €90 on eBay but is regarded as the bestvwax out there. I've a whole selection of products waiting to be used on my new car from paint sealant and carnauba wax to leather conditioner.

I would recommend highly :Collinite No. 476S - Super Doublecoat Auto Wax

It's easy to apply and lasts longest.

Will see if I can take some tonight. It is very subdued, but really nice when you look around the car. A few other guys on here have put up photos, but you really need to see it in the flesh.

You are right about the wax, I need to get some clay also. I actually did put some tyrewall polish on after I took the shots (and cleaned the inside), not that you would know it now as I have 350Km on since then on some muddy wet roads.

Lots of good detailing info on this site
