Stonechips and tar.
Maybe it's unique to DSB or maybe it the curse of Donegal's roads, or perhaps it's the shape of the F10's bonnet, but the front of my 2 week old car is peppered with stone chips. Anyone else experiencing this?
Also thinking seriously about mudflaps as a lot of tar is being thrown up. |

Dom, Mine is 3 weeks old in space grey, 2100Km up and no chips so far.
The tar being sprayed up however is another issue, the rear is peppered and I put it down to the 275's. I Will be looking into mudflaps before the summer comes around. |

My old topaz blue 3 series looked amazing when new but after about 35-40k miles the front of it was all pitted and chipped. That's why I ordered alpine white for my f10

We really shouldn't have to pay any road tax in Donegal - the Council should be paying us! |

As to tar spots, road grime etc., I recommend Autosmart Tardis - just spray it on and watch the muck dissolve. |

my DSB E60550i after 50K miles, has numersous chips/pits all over the front end and hood, and thats after driving on generally dry southern california roads. BMW uses a water based paint that doesnt hold up well, my biggest gripe with an otherwise great car.

Do you think a different colour would be better - space grey for example?

Almost every manufacturer uses water based paints. They only don't use it if they are in an old plant/country where they can get away with thinner-based. Also BMW uses powder coat for their clear coat, not even liquid paint.

Alboston I see you also got a 528 now! You used to have a 335xi right? I picked up fully loaded 528i yesterday.. I traded my 335xi in for the f10. Anyway so I wont get too far off topic My f10 came with the stone guard stuff on the entire front bumper hood etc that stuff is priceless if you ask me esp on northeast roads with rock salt etc..

In winter I keep a little distance from cars in front of me. This winter I got no damage the front from flying stones from the cars ahead of me.

Quite agree, but unless you deliberately drive into the ditch, there's not much you can do to avoid the gritter truck coming towards you in the opposite lane on a narrow road .
