F***ing Gutted
So,
I ordered my 530d M-Sport a few weeks back. Start of the Quarter, can't remember exactly. Anyway, got a call today, and it's in the dealers, arrived today. Not been PDI'd yet, but it's there. I went to have a look, and thought, yeah... That's beautiful. Ok. So I didn't know that the 530 came with little "chrome" strips in the handles. Unfortunate, but I can probably live with that. Then I look up. High-Gloss back window surrounds. Awesome. "Chrome" roof bars. WTF??? Now I know I told the muppet salesman that I was basically speccing up this BMW to the same spec as a A6 Black Edition that I got a very good quote for. I wanted everything that can be black, to be black. Eventually I got rid of the Piano Black interior, because it was too much, but still... EVERYTHING Black. But no. Chrome fucking roofbars? Anyway, aint picked the car up, it is still to be pdi'd anyway. But where do I stand? This car isn't exactly how I wanted it. It's got an RRP of £50k+ and isn't to my spec. Ok, I drove the deal pretty hard (20% off). So they are saying there isn't room to play with for them to fix the issue. They quoted £600+ vat as a "normal" quote to supply and fit the black bars. They offered me half that at around £275. I'm thinking, this was a no cost option, and your salesman didn't tick the box. Anyway. Can I not accept it as it's not what I wanted? Can I just leave it? What are my options here? |

Play smart, make believe u gonna walk out the deal if it be wont fixed on their expense and see what happens if u think they wont tilt. Then it all depends on you, just think about it before u take the car or walk away...

Just weigh it out. It is unfortunate that mistakes are made, but as in any business, they happen.
You said you got a smoking deal with about 20% off. It will cost you £275 more to get it exactly how you wanted it. Is your time and headache worth walking away and waiting for another car for that small amount? I also know it is more because of the principle, but after a few days you will forget. You need to judge but I would just get it and enjoy it, but still try to haggle more.

Thats arrived quickly! Mine was ordered 30th Sept and due 16th November!
Sorry to hear about the bars, makes me wonder what mine will come with now, but for £275, just get it done, life's too short Hope that helps |

Yeah it did arrive quick. I was surprised, because about 8-10 days after paying the deposit, I decided I wanted a quick wee spec change, but the car was already built.
Wasn't meant to be here until the 16th, like yours. But it arrived today. The car I originally spec'd was a 2.0d with options. It was all right at that point. I then changed car to a stripped back 3.0d, and that's where it was lost. The salesman obviously forgot about that box to check. Then when I added some spec back to the 3.0d, it wasn't included there either. Obviously I assumed it was still there, as the shadowline exterior trim was still there, I had forgotten that the roof rails were seperate. So my mistake there obviously. I'll get back to them, and tell them that I am REALLY gutted about this, and have been considering all night to walk away. If they can go down to £200, I'll go for it. |

Yeah, I was gonna do that. But I DID want pro nav, and ambient lighting (although they don't tell you that comes with a chrome strip on the door handles).
When we were doing the numbers, they threw in the pro nav for free with the 3.0. The ambient lighting is standard, and they could do a much bigger dealer contribution. In the end, it was a little over £1 per day more for the 530d over the 520d. So I was sold. But when making this change, lost the roof rails obviously. Anyway, a couple days later, I upped the deposit, and put back most of the spec I took out when pricing the 3.0d, and added MFD. |

Lol. Nice. Bet it would have cost hardly anything to get the 3.0d then. The Pro nav was about £1500, and the extra contribution was about £2k. Then with the increase in residual the £5k price difference reduces quickly, lol.

Congratulations on your car and really sorry to hear about the spec mix-up. From the way you describe the situation, there is a little bit of responsiblity on both parties. The dealer has apparently taken steps to meet you half way. It's up to you to gauge whether they can move a bit further on that or not. No harm in asking for a reduction to 200 to get it done, but in the grand scheme of things, if the dealer won't budge then just pay it and get your car.

Was does it say on your copy of the signed order? Is the roofbar option there? If not, it's your fault as much as it is the dealers, if not more. And, if you got 20% off, Pro Nav etc and you're going to walk away if they can't reduce the cost to change the bars from £250 to £200. Are you fecking kidding???
It also quite clearly states in the brochure and the on-line build system that ambient lighting (standard on 6-cyl; option on 4-cyl) has chrome highlights.

Seems like a messy situation - but my best advice is to leave it. Tampering with the trim parts of the car after production may bring disaster. The car may pick up scratches and scrapes while the work is done and only aggravate you more. Furthermore, if the workmanship is poor, it can give birth to a host of issues - assuming these rails are not just snap on/off fitments.
If you told the sales person specifically that chrome in all instances was an issue, then it was his/her professional responsibility to inform you the door handles will have chrome AND reintroduce the roof rails in black/high gloss - but only IF you told him/her. At the very least, you should have been shown the configuration images on their computer so you have the chance to detect the issue yourself. Raise the issue with BMW customer service if this did not take place. If you do go ahead with the change, keep the originals as you have theoretically paid for them and they might come in handy ...eBay. Consider getting a quotation for 'vinyl wrapping', but this option carriers the same risks stated before. Last edited by RandomGuy152; 11-02-2013 at 09:12 AM.. |

Quote - "Then I look up. High-Gloss back window surrounds. Awesome. "Chrome" roof bars. WTF???"
Exactly the same happened to me - I'd specced a 535 Touring and had clocked that you could opt for black rails (surprising it isnt included in the shadowline window trims) .... but then they walked me round a 530d T they had on the floor - with a LOT of extras and £20 a month cheaper ..... and a bird in the hand vs a 2 month delkivery quote. Signed the deal, walked round the car again before I left ... Picked it up 2 days later and the first thing I clocked were the silver-shit roof rails, sticking out like a sore thumb above the Carbon Black ..... ... I guess if it didnt hit me when I was in hyper-critical mode, it wouldnt be an issue - and have to say that 3 months later I dont even notice!
