there is a vacuum tube that plugs into the muffler and perhaps you can disconnect it and ask your local muffler shop to either take out the flap completely or some kind of welding to make it stay open.

Solution - buy a Supersprint exhaust!
Flap open or not, will make almost no difference in sound.

is there possibly a fuse that can be pulled that operates the flap?

Anyone know which fuse controls the exhaust valve?

On the mufflers, locate the flap, on top of the flap youll see a mecanical arm which opens and closes that flap. On the mecanical arm youll see a circular thing with a rubber tube(vaccum line) vonnect to it. You must remove the tube from the circular thing(use some wd40 it can get stuck some times) and then when the tube is off youll want to plug it, either fold and zip tie or use 2-3 layers of duct taoe to ensure an ajr tight fit. Some recommend a golf tee...stay away from that...its hard to get it out after.
Of yeah and once the tube is plugged, just tape it onto the side of where it originaly was but on the opposite side of the muffker of it will melt the tape lol. I beleive the 550i has this on both side so repeate other side. |

I know it sounds complicated, but its not: If you want to see what it sounds like, pull off both vaccum tubes on both sides of the exhaust and seal them with a couple of layers of duct tape and then drive around if you like it then just make sure that ou sealed the tube well and then just tape it back to the thing it wa connected to. If you dislike the sound, then take off the tape and clean the residue(it leaves a bit of sticky stuff) and put it back on. My advice to you: BMW performance exhaust....Im not sure if they have one yet for the 550i? If they dont, theyll have it soon! |
