BOSCH the same ones our cars use from Amazon, so much cheaper than from BMW. by about $100 that's with 20% shop discount.

I left my car with the dealer, and boy I'm not so sure anymore. They say I have a misfire on cylinders 5 and 7 now (which shouldn't be the case), and nothing on cylinder 1 (which had a misfire locked in when I dropped it off). 5 and 7 injectors were already replaced as discussed in my first post, and I'm starting to think I may need to grab a new set of coils after all. Time to do some more shopping.

I hope they're smart enough to pull #1 plug like I suggested, if so, it definitely will give the tell-tale sign that the injector is leaking.

Who else has done a coil swap, and is there an upgraded set of coils out there for the N63? I thought I saw something on ECS before, but I can't find it now.

The whole job is simple. I did it yesterday in the street waiting for my girlfriend to get out of the shower. Took 40 minutes.

The turbo's dont even come into play with this. Unplug the MAF and loosen one of the two hose clamps to the box. Pull the hose back and then pry the tab out of the tube below. Release the metal clip by the orange rubber mount and remove the o2 sensor wires from the routing clips. The airbox then comes out with a good yank as an assembly.

It's a little tricky to pull the box the first time (because you're worried about breaking something). After you get the hang of it, it can be done in under a minute.

Replcacing and coding injectors

I am having some issues with my N63 engine 550i. Recently, it has started misfiring slightly on cold start and will trip the "drivetrain error" warning. When I read the codes, it is a cyl 5 misfire - injection shut down.

I pulled the spark plugs (dealer was supposed to change ~10k miles ago) but they looked a little worn. What I think is cyl # 5 plug looked normal colour. Am I right in assuming the RHS while looking at the front of the engine is #5 and #1 is front LHS?

Interestingly, plug #1 looked more problematic. Was very black.

I have changed all the plugs but I don't think it solved the issue. It sounds like an injector issue to me. But is it #5 or #1?

If I change injectors, can I just change one? Or do I need to do them all? Do I really need to recode? If so, where can I buy the tool?

Thanks in advance

This site has Bosch spark plugs for 100 and genuine bmw spark plugs for 150. Is there any major difference between the two ?

found them a bit cheaper, $87 shipped

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-F01-F02-...21f277&vxp=mtr

Already ordered the socket, gonna order this ones on the next paycheck.

My car is getting close to 40k miles, and supposed to be done every 30k, and I do drive it fairly hard with the Stage 1.

Lets see how they turn out.

The Manuel that came with my 550 says to change plugs at 50k. Is there an adendem to this interval?

I recently got an email about service and said oil and spark plugs, and I read somewhere every 30k miles is about right, specially if your tuned. I rather not run the risk for 100 bucks total (i'll be doing it myself)

I didnt change the spark plugs in my G37 until after 100k, and was running perfectly fine.

I get my car back from the dealer tomorrow for HPFP recall, I'm changing the plugs when I get it home. Rock auto has the stock Bosch (BOSCH ZR5TPP33 OE) plugs for $8.88 each or $76.66 for all 8 shipped. This is where I bought mine

Im due for mine pretty quick as I'm about to hit 60,000 miles, I called NGK and they don't make a plug so I'm just going to do stockers as well. my car runs flawless on the ones it has so I see no reason to upgrade at this point, but I would like to run a heat range cooler for increased boost.

Any special tools? Someone mentioned a bmw spark plug socket, will a regular spark plug socket work?

I'm changing my plugs to hopefully get rid of a slight rough idle and when I say rough I mean it's barely noticeable. I picked my car up from the dealer today, for the fuel pump recall and it feels the same as it did before I took it in. My plugs won't be here till Monday, a shipping error on thier part. So I won't be able to say if it helped my issue, but it needs them anyway based on mileage.

Ya I also have a very slight rough idle.. Keep us posted if changing the spark plugs makes a difference.

I'm looking to get mine swapped out as well. How hard is the install? Is it like changing spark plugs on any other car or is there some computer programming that bmw dealer has to do ?

I will definitely post back after the plug change. The SA from bmw told me the car feels fine and he didn't notice anything, my next option is to test drive a new 550 and see how it idles, I bought my car used with 51k on the clock so I don't know what It was like when new. My girlfriend has an e60 and always tells me her car doesn't idle like that and something is wrong, I tell her it's my "hard on" she's feeling when I get behind the wheel of this beast! She's a little jealous, but her car is what had me looking at bmw's in the first place.
