End of Warranty and Maintenance

Cannot believe I am almost approaching the end of 4 years with my car in a few months (still seems new to me).

What are some clever things to ask the dealer for or complain about before the free maintenance expires?

If you haven't had to change your battery yet, tell them it sounds like the car is straining to start at times. They will likely load test the battery and you may get a new one. I did this before the end of my warranty. Saved me around $500. Our cars use an AGM battery and they are not cheap.

You might complain about vibration when braking. This could get you new rotors and perhaps pads.

I did that just last week as i had gotten a discharge warning while I was on vacation. Got a brand new battery. Tried the brakes but they said those were good. Others?

Check the headlights to see if it everything works. Mine broke twice in under 50k miles. Not the actual housing itself but all the little parts in it for dipping and swiveling. It doesn't throw codes when it broke.

Hopefully 15+ years. These are LEDs unlike their predecessors, so should have an expectancy of at least that much

What's your mileage?

Mine is going to be 4 years in Feb 2016 but I have almost 48K miles on mine. Scheduled and had the 50K miles service done 2 weeks ago. They told me this is probably the last free service. I told them not unless I find something wrong in next 2K miles.. LOL

I had my brakes done about 10K miles ago. Everything good for now.

My turn signal just started acting up this week. Will take it in one more time before I get to the 50K miles.

Right, you only "win" if something goes wrong... and hopefully nothing will.

Though if you look at cost of repairing things on f10, it can get a bit scary.

Of course, but keep in mind that in the larger picture, the dealer (or underwriter) always wins, so the odds of you losing are higher. I understand the cost of repairs are higher than your average Japanese/Korean sedan but we all know that going in. Also, the dealer is never the best option post-warranty. There are several independent techs (ex-BMW Master techs) who I happily hand over my BMW to for repairs, at much lower cost
