F10 rear rattle

Hi
Got a real annoying rattle from rear of car. It's definately coming from inside, think rear vent. Any ideas how to fix it. Btw rear seats are not folding.

Have you checked under the seats? There is a air vent and it is very easy for things to slide into the vent if dropped on the rear floor. I found the remote for the rear dvd screens in mine. Don't be scared to pull the plastic housing from the floor - it is quite robust.

Thanks. But the rattle is definately coming from near the rear window.

I removed the third brake light and out some foam tape around the edges. Made a small difference but there's still a obvious rattle.

Any other suggestions?

Have you checked the locking wheel nut key in the compartment in the lid of the trunk? Mine occasionally works loose and causes a rattle...

Mine has had rattles in the centre arm storage area, fixed with foam tape as well around the edges.

My F10 also has a rattle from the 3rd brake light area - how did you remove it to apply the tape? I had a go at trying to remove the section of headlining by hand and I can see it's clipped in, don't want to apply too much force in case I permanently damage it....

You have to use a bit of force or at least I did.

What part of the centre arm did you tape?

I put a couple of small pieces on the back part of the cupholder assembly on the outside edges where it slides against the front part. There is a also removable storage box behind the armrest which provides access to the boot. This has some tape on the opening flap of the storage box. Only by stopping that lot rattle did i discover the rattle in the roof.... Thanks for the tip, i managed to get it off and have applied more tape inside that. Will test drive it tomorrow.

How did you remove the storage box? Mine seems to be fixed.

Have you sat in the back with someone else driving? Might help you identify where it's coming from...

Finished about two months ago.

Also realised the rattling is more obvious when it's cold / or when the ac has been on for a while.

Think I may have worked out where that noise is coming from. The rear centre headrest. But it's intermittent. If I move it I can replicate the noise. Question is, what can I use to stop the noise? A bit of wd40 maybe?

The WD40/duct-tape school of engineering says "WD40 for squeaks and duct-tape for rattles".
