Oil Top-off

when your vehicle requires a top-off, do you get a message via i-drive calling to add one (1) or two (2), quarts of oil? My 550i has always asked for 2 quarts, but I'm being told that this is not normal; that the vehicle should only be asking for one quart.

Forgot to add, do not install 2 quarts. Just the one, then check the level after a 30 minute drive (i bet it will be back to full).

There is a 1 quart overage in nearly all standard BMW Vehicles.

When Idrive complains, you've lost your one quart buffer.

Anyone know how "accurate" the picture is on iDrive? Every time I check it the green lines up perfectly with the mark on the picture of the dipstick. It's never up or down by a bit.

Illuminated level drops in increments, (four I believe between max and min). Over here in the UK we are set for a litre top up, (min to max). My 535i dropped from maximum to the next defined level. About 250ml topped it back up to maximum. So pretty accurate in my example.

Mine asked for 2 quarts last week as well. Took it in to the dealer, the tech added 2 quarts and it has been fine since. Level went from the min to the max. When I mentioned that it was requesting 2 quarts, he checked that it was a 550 before adding them so I am guessing it must be normal 550s.
