Air Conditioning

When was the last time anyone topped up the air con gas in their car.

I have either been very lucky in the past or I have a problem.

I have never had a need to top up the gas for any cars air-conditioning even on cars I have had for 5 years.

However I have noticed that my 1 year old F10 530d no longer cools down. It has just over 8000 miles on it.

Is this normal for an F10?

My F10 535d has just reached 2 years old and a couple of weeks ago i noticed when we had hot weather the air con was not working at all, no cold air coming out at all. So i booked it in at Bmw and they said the condenser had a leak in it so they ordered the part which took about a week to come and i booked it back it again and they fitted it and regassed the air con all free of charge under warranty.

Hope this helps

Thing is BMW want £120 to look at the car, if it needs a top up, its £50 at kwikfit, so how do I find out what is causing the issue.

Just seen another thread, where it could be the condenser

Sounds like a fault or damage, I've never topped up the gas on a BMW... Also the car is under warranty so they shouldn't charge you to look at it, as you expect the aircon to work on a two year old car!

Condenser failure is a very common occurrence on the F10. Google it and will find numerous threads. BMW are well aware.

If its in warranty, just book it in. If however, the condenser has been damaged by a stone through the grille, it wouldn't be covered by the warranty.

Yes but if the grille isn't damaged I'd argue that this is a design flaw, might not work but worth a try
