I'm with OP - I want my ding-guards! My 14-year old X5 only have a couple of small dings with those ding-guards; but the ding-guards did its job and took a lot of abuse. This is with the mindset of always choosing the best possible parking spots in all situations - but sometimes, there just isn't an option.

Aerodynamics? Does a tiny strip of plastic on the side make any difference below 90-100mph?

Pretty much every auto-parts store has a variety of ding-guards.

BMW hasn't had them since at least the E46 era.

Let's be realistic: it's not your problem (you're careful not to open your door(s) so wide that they bang the car parked next to you, right?) It's the other bozo in the clapped-out Chevy Cruze or whatever that bangs your door - no applique will stop those dings from happening.

These are the best you can buy. I have them on my 4 and love them. I know they are not for everyone.

Check out www.doordefender.com or http://www.doorshox.com/

Yes they are ugly when it is on the car, but at least they are removable so you can use them only when you feel it is necessary.

I have the door defender and used it a handful of times when I have no choice but to park in a bad spot. Also I cut off the security cables, I figured if someone wants to steal them I rather they just take it instead of damaging my door.

If you're worried about them scratching your car, there is nothing to worry about as long as you keep both your car and this clean. My car have the frozen finish so scratches can't be polished out and I have no worries using them and haven't had any scratches yet.

Won’t work on the F10, aluminum skins, magnets won’t work.

They are not there because they detract from the beautiful lines designed into these cars.

I had them on my e46 but they weren't attached to the widest part of the body, so i still got dinged

I seem to recall discussions when the Honda Accord dropped them 10-15 years ago.

Styles have changed.

The E46 and E39 and friends were probably the last to have them (?)

Agree styles have changed, even if cars are more vulnerable to damage, as they are now wider and parking places no different.

Mainstream E9x and E6x models lost the trims with the 'slab' sided designs. May look good, but so vulnerable to dings.
