535i mild exhaust options

Hey guys!

I'm brand new to the forum and have been doing a ton of reading on tuning, coding, and all things performance related for my new (to me) 535i M Sport.

What I'm trying to narrow down is what exhaust I can get to give the car some sound, without loud being the real goal. I *think* the answer is the M Performance exhaust, but I figured I'd get some thoughts from the forum. If I remember right, when I drove a 335is I really liked the sound, which I believe is an M Performance exhaust. I see some folks doing a muffler delete, which If I had to guess is going to be quite loud. Also, not going to change out the downpipe as thats a bit too obvious if I have any warranty work I need done.

I tried to research this one myself, but most threads I read have a goal of being really loud... well... I have a cammed v8 car sitting in my garage for that. My main goal is just to give the car some sound.

Thanks!

Depends how much you wanna spend? For 1k you can go with the newly released exhaust by Dinan. $750 you can go with a Megan exhaust. If you want EV... Armytrix for about $2300 and $3k+ for Meisterschaft . Lots of YouTube videos on every exhaust for the 535...you just have to

Haven't pulled the trigger, but at just under $1000 and having Dinan quality... those would likely be my pick. The bugger of it, as I understand, is that our friendly German engineers were so effective at sound insulation in the 5-series that even your cammed V8 would be pretty muted with the windows up.

I'm actually pondering if I can remove a bit or two of the insulation... maybe somewhere under the hood... to see if I can let a little sound in. Seems crazy.

If you are looking for a mild exhaust option, then the M Performance is a good choice. I was looking for the same and I am quite happy with my choice. I have mine paired with a BMS intake. I do wish there was a bit more growl from the intake, but am content with the burble and rumble from the exhaust. PM me your cell number and I can send you a video clip of cold start up.

Thanks for the replies!

Lsturbointeg- I've seen plenty of videos. YouTube is both good and bad. To me it's better for type of sound, no so much volume of sound. Different cameras, distances etc can make things sound more or less loud.

Gpfarrel, Bake, good input also. I really hope the insulation doesn't keep me from letting in a bit of sound.

Remus isn't rice-rocket loud either, just a low rumble.

I like the Remus exhaust tone...just not a fan of the smaller tips!

Not one thing about what you said is remotely true, I can hear my exhaust and road noise like mofo in my 550 f10 and the interior wouldn't mute any cammed v8. Bmw is good at making super quite stock exhaust systems that won't bother a stuffy man or a snobby woman but the interior hardly kills exhaust systems designed to be heard.

Well, I guess this guy had it all wrong:

Dinan Rep in other thread:

"Inside the cabin the sound is essentially the same as stock. I couldn't perceive a difference at least. Given it was a week in between when I was in the stock car and when the finished exhaust was on there but it doesn't drone or have that boomy cabin sound at all. "

I'm not saying you're wrong... I appreciate your firsthand experience. I do hope your exhaust tone is a little more pleasant than the tone of your writing.

Btw, isn't it strange that if the interior doesn't mute the sound of cammed V8 that the M5's went through all the trouble to pump in fake noise. So weird.

Good day!

My magnaflow with chamber resonators seems to be the sweet spot. If you're familiar with the golf t mod. It's like that, but about 25% louder. No drone between 2500-3000k rpm. Loud on wot. Deep rumble from idle to 2500. I know, I know video. Coming soon. Total cost at local muffler shop 250.00. Reused stock tips. Super low key visually.

Thanks again for the additional replies. I'm working on finding some folks local to hear some exhausts in person. M Performance, Megan, Remus, they all sound good...just dont' want to go too loud.

Obviously I'd like to spend as little as possible to get the sound I want; however,to be honest, the cost for my Vette exhaust, and the one I had on my Audi were all $2k+, which isn't as high as they can be, but roughly $1200 for M Performance, <$1k for Megan, I have no issues there.

See, and this I'm totally ok with as well. This isn't a show car, I am happy with stock tips, and I'm not trying to throw a brand name out there. This is all about my personal preference in sound. If I wanted less sound, I suppose I could always use a bigger magnaflow as well.

Hell...if I'm out $250 because it wasn't quite what I wanted, thats not the end of the world either.

number 1 option would be Remus
Number 2 Megan Racing

GTHaus Meisterschaft is an amazing exhaust but is aggressive

Just curious, which Magnaflow do you have (size, etc.?). So the local muffler shop welded the chamber resonators on for you and installed also?

14" magna flows. They don't have model numbers, just length sizes in their straight through designs. The chamber resonators are custom built 33" long based on some math for sound cancelation. The muffler shop did the work. You have to remove the support beam and move it up in order to start the chambers from the the oem resonator. Do it, you'll love it. It's a very nice compliment to the vehicle. Do you have a DP? Otherwise the sound will be even more refined.
