2016 550i xdrive with m343 tire issue

Hey guys,

I have a 2016 bmw 550i xdrive awd with stock suspension that i put the following m5 343m rims and tire sizes on:

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 245/35/20 with 20x8.5 wheels for front
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 285/30/20 with 20x10 wheels for rear

I believe these are the stock dimensions but the issue I am running into is that there is a big wheel gap, very noticeable in the front. See pictures

I was wondering if I could use the following tires without an issue:

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 245/40/20 with 20x8.5 wheels for front
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 285/35/20 with 20x10 wheels for rear

They are still <1% (0.7%) difference in diameter from each other. Tire rack sells them and surprisingly they are even cheaper than the tires i have on now.

And no I don't want to get lowering springs because I have the F10 dynamic handling packaging and i dont want to mess up the suspension or change it.

1. I was wondering if anyone ran the 245/40/20 & 285/35/20 on their F10 550 and if it had any rubbing issues or drivetrain issues?

2. Will this fix the tire wheel well gap that is there now

Since the 245/40 tires are about half an inch taller, you’ll get half an inch less gap too.

245/40/20's fit on the fronts. That's what I run on the fronts for my 343M's. Any taller and you'll hit the knuckle, though.

Did it help with the wheel gap and what do you have running on the rear?
If you can post a picture, that would be great!

But a half an inch gap is barely noticable
Whats weird is that i had 245/40/19 inch tires on my f10 before and there was no wheel gap but now there is. Idk if something is wrong with the suspension or firestone did something wrong during the install

1/2 inch is not at all noticeable. Your gap will still look huge.

I'm lowered, so no related photos, sorry.

That's the funny thing with sizing up on wheels thinking they'll lower wheel gap: the bigger the wheel, the bigger the gap looks.

It's a weird optical illusion.

It is physically a larger wheel gap. Look at the picture attached.

The 19inch are on the bottom

Well, of course the wheel gap will look larger given that the 20's photo was taken from a lower angle.

Additionally, increased offset can make the gap look bigger.

Think about it for a second: mathematically, there's literally no way for the gap to objectively increase in size. It's therefore a subjective illusion.

I have oem 345m wheels on 265/40/19 and 295/35/19
No rubbing at all.
total height is 27.3" front and 27.1" rear.

I want to run 265/45/19 (28.4") and 295/40/19 (28.3") but might hit the knuckle per Unspec that has 27.7" height in front.

28.4" -27.7" = .7 / 2 = .35" so less than 3/8" closer to the knuckle. Visually It seems I have about an inch from the tire to the knuckle, might give it a try next year.

Unspec What do you have on the back for tires?

i run 255/35/20 and 285/30/20 in the back.

2014 550i (RWD) lowered on ACS Springs.

run 3mm spacers on front.

Changing tires will not reduce the wheel gap, only thing that will is lowering it...Dinan / ACS are the 2 i'd recommend, that work with the EDC...and maintain the stock ride...

i'm running ps4 All season up front and ps4s summer in the back (we have alot of potholes here) so the fronts do take a beating...

the SUMMER ps4s i had up front DIDN'T rub. these all season ones do rub...(on bumps). So i may go down to 245 all seasons up front...which should eliminate the rubbing.

Do you have a picture of your car with this set up and what winter tires do you use?

Also what lowering springs do you use?

I run all seasons with KW v3's, so no lowering springs.

sorry to bud in.

That is with the 343m stock offset, correct? I can't recall if you mentioned elsewhere you had spacers or not.

I installed the stock m343 rims 9jx20 front & 10jx20 rear and for a LCI 550i xdrive, you need a set of 3mm or greater spacers to clear the caliper

Fronts are running 7.5mm spacers, rear none. That said, I ran no spacers when on stock brakes, and only went to spacers due to the G series brake caliper retrofit.

On 550i's you need a 3mm spacer due to the larger 550i calipers, but 535i stock brakes you can get away with no spacers.
