I made the huge mistake of taking our 535i with iDrive to a car wash once and they wiped the screen with some crap and left some smudging on the screen. I could clean the whole thing with a microfiber cloth with Monster LCD/Plasma screen cleaner, looked like new afterward. I was nervous after reading so many horror stories on this forum, but I couldn't leave it as it was a took the risk.

Once again... my point is that the anti-glare surface is WAY too fragile to be left without any protective "glass" like older models. This is unacceptable in a vehicle which is used almost every day.

i know what hes talking about. someone touched my screen and there was a smudge and I tried to wipe it and it only looks worse. The screen is very delicate so I guess dnt touch it lol. And to clean it I just use a mf cloth and just glide it ontop so it picks up the dust.

Exactly. It's a FUCKING CAR ! It's going to get VERY dusty inside.

I think everyone with a similar issue needs to start calling BMW NA and telling them that the iDrive screen is WAY too delicate.

NO, it isn't the problem.

A microfiber cloth which was soaked and wrung out should be perfect for wiping the screen gently after gently removing the dust with an air can or VERY soft makeup brush.

The problem is that the SCREEN IS TOO FUCKING DELICATE FOR A CAR.

Please stop wasting my time defending BMW regarding this issue. I love my car and BMW's in general but THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW.

Unless you have six kids in the car or you sneeze a lot (lol), you shouldnt be worrying about cleaning your screen

Im not defending BMW BTW.
Once again... yes it is.

This is my 5th BMW with Nav and 4th with iDrive. I have never had this problem before. You obviously have nothing constructive to add to this thread so I'll thank you to stop wasting my time.
Bye : )

I can also see this in my car, and it hasn't been abused to say the least. I agree to this being really poor design.

Are you kidding me? You expect the screen to never be cleaned for the duration of its 10+ year life time? I think not. I never touch my screen, but one day there will be a splatter or mark of some kind that will need to be wiped. Then I will use a LCD screen cleaner. It anything happens, BMW will pay for it!

BMW doesn't expect you to touch it so they are not going to do anything about it. I know a thing or two about quality control because I worked for a certain auto manufacturer.
LOL! "It is not meant to be touched" is the funniest thing I heard. So you are saying that the manufacturer of that screen (BMW supplier) does not think about these things?

If you can show me where BMW (not a SA at a dealer) ever says that, I'll stop buying BMWs.
