Ticking sound when I turn

So lately I realized every time I take a 90 degree turn my car starts to make this ticking sound the comes from the wheel area I believe.. I'm not sure what it is! Thank you.

Mine made a sound like that and the dealer replaced the wheel bearing which fixed it.

both will give symptoms of ticking...wheel bearings and axle. problem for either one is with the wheel bearing you could lose your wheel while driving? for the axle you'll just break down on the road and your wheel will probably be pointing up? i dunno?

Is this a common problem? I have no ticking sounds from mine, my car is smooth as silk.

For me it wasn't the bearings. It's gotta be that electric rack steering and if it is, why not upgrade to an M5 steering rack with a better turn radius.

I had the problem you describe since I took delivery on the car brand new in 2013. No dealer could fix it, Austin dealer replaced the bearings as a few of you indicated and then I drove off from the dealer and a 90 degree turn and there it was, and its quite obvious. I dealt with it for a while then as I went back to Chicago for a few months a dealer in the NW suburbs replaced the right front axle. It seems to solved the problem.

I just picked my 528xdrive up from the dealership for the same type of noise.

Evidently there is a SIB for this (31 01 12)

They: "removed left and right front wheel bearing and applied grease to wheel bearing mating surface per SIB 31 01 12. Reassembled vehicle. Test drove again. No noise heard. All ok"

For now, it's all quiet.

I had the same exact issue. I removed my brake pads, calipers, rotors inspected each for signs of damage, checked the springs, shocks, sway bar links, even checked and refilled hydraulic fluid (which I was very low on and once filled cured my highway vibration remarkably) and bought new OEM rotors and pads when the noise was still present. Turns out that after washing my car (and the inner barrels of my wheels which I do at least once a week) I realized there was a greenish, gray grease like substance slung all over the inner barrel. I know I didnt run over anything since I drove the car less than 20 city blocks and back so I put it up on ramps and saw the CV joint had lost a significant amount of grease. This was a new development so I made an appointment with the dealer and turns out it was the CV joint making the ticking noise so I had the entire front driver's side replaced for $1800. Here were my symptoms:
- Ticking noise when making sharp turns such as U turns
- Ticking noise evident in low speed/sharp turns especially noticeable when load is applied to the turning side (such as exiting or entering a driveway or taking a turn in a parking garage with an incline or decline)
- Ticking noise that seemed "patterned" (making the same noise in similar intervals and proportionate to speed)

Did they say how long the grease will hold? Or did they tell you to come back after x amount of miles for regreasing?

Hahaha. No, and I'm not really convinced it'll be gone forever. From experience, I've learned that if they don't change parts, it's not permanent. For now it's quiet, and I didn't get my favorite "could not duplicate problem" message from the tech. I just wanted to share the SIB number here.
