ok so i got a 2011 m sport 535i almost fully optioned. stickered over 75k
but the only thing the car didn't have that i wanted was HUD... im sure this is almost stupid to retrofit because of cost... but I didn't know i was also missing the Full black panel display because of this?! does anyone know if i can retrofit just the black panel display?!

wow good info. I did not know the dash is different for the HUD and non HUD cars. Looks like another option to add to my long list lol.

Not possible without the HUD. Take a close look at the rings around your Speedometer and Tachometer gauges. If they are complete circles, you do not have the extended black panel. The gauge rings on the extended black panel do not exist on the bottom portion of the gauges.

Option 6WA full extended black panel display dash, which is only available with option 610 Head-up Display is unmistakable. If you have it, the bottom of all 4 gauge rings will be missing and only appear electronically when the instrument panel is lit up. Beyond that, unlike the regular dash display, when it is turned off, there is no gauge data displayed at all, as in it's completely devoid off all numbers for Speed, RPM's, Fuel, etc. All that you can see is the gauge rings and the bevel with the tick marks. If you have 6WA, it will look like this when the display is turned off and then when it is turned on.

In the united states black panel display is given to you if you buy the hud system. in europe... they can be bought separately... mean.. it can exist separately... meaning someone can code it to work... just need to find out... how...

And on 525i and up you can order it as standalone option. But you cannot code it to work, it is HW you need. |

What is HW? Hardwired? I think by coding, Park828 was referring to the fact that Option 6WA would need to be added to the Vehicle Order and the dashboard module coded to the vehicle.

In Sweden it is a separate option, called extended display. It can be added on all variants and is not standard on any vehicle, unless you have professional Navi.

Here it's a separate option, not incl. with prof navi, only incl. with HUD.

Sorry, but I do not know if HU_ENTRY Head Unit will support 6WA. My guess is it does not. I think you would need CIC, NBT or ENTRYNAV Head Unit.

While the black does look awesome, I prefer the traditional look of the full silver ring and seeing the numbers on the dials.
Enjoy the weekend everyone!

FWIW I have the HUD option, but, never use it. I tried it a few times and found it added no useful driving function, or grin factor for that matter.

WOW, I didn't know there was a cluster difference too. I did think my cluster looked really cool, but then I have HUD. Wasn't HUD supposed to be part of the Driver Assist package?
