2011 535i Tilt/Sunroof Malfunction

I have a tilt/sunroof malfunction. I opened my sunroof today for the first time in like ever (not a full open just a tilt) and now it won't close. I did the hold down the tilt button for(15,30,60sec) but no reset initiation. I heard the clicks after like 15 seconds but it does nothing. I took a flashlight and looked for anything blocking the tracks or whatnot but nothing. I guess its time for the dealer

You did this with the engine running, right?

Push the sunroof button up and hold it the whole time until the reset process is completed and the sunroof shade closes.

I'm having the same problem you described. No luck with the reset, just some clicks. Do you recall the solution, or what the dealer did to fix it?

This reset process works as advertised. Thanks v12. We recently had some hot weather, and I discovered two things that were not working correctly: the air conditioning and the sun roof. It took a refrigerant recharge to fix the former, but I was able to perform the reset procedure for the latter.

Fixed mine, accidentally. The push-button reset sequence didn't work for me because the button wasn't responding. Reset the code and still no movement. Just had my clutch done which required the battery to be pulled. After plugging the battery back in everything started working again! I know I mentioned above that I tried that, but the battery was removed for a long time so maybe that's the difference.

Sunroof life!

Perfect, I had to hold button up for around 20 seconds. Worked a treat 👍🥂

For the reset to work, the car must be running correct? If I start with the shade and glass in the closed position, which way should the button be pushed? Toward the front glass or the rear glass? Thanks.

EDIT: Read another thread and figured it out!!!!

Glad you figured it out…but for others that may run across this issue…the procedure is in your owners manual (paper version and digital version embedded in iDrive).

And DO check your owners manual because some models require the engine to be running and some don’t.

Just to add, the button to operate the glass and cover has to be pushed straight up....not towards the front or rear glass....just straight up and hold it until the roof goes through it's complete cycle. Thanks for the page out of the manual QSilver
