Official Performance power kit for the F10 520d ?

Hi, Does anyone know if / when BMW UK are bringing out an official Performance power kit for the F10 520d, as is currently available for the 120d and 320d?

The 2011 model year 525d is a 2.0d with 218ps and 450Nm, vs. the 2010/2011 520d with a 2.0d at 184ps and 380Nm. On this basis, I would imagine that the potential to upgrade the 520d would be relatively simple to provide from a technical perspective, in terms of a "Performance power kit". The blocking factor for releasing a kit, I imagine, would be the negative sales impact on 525d for current 520d owners aspiring to a bit more power.

If anyone has a definite "yes there will be a kit" / "no there won't be a kit" for the 520d, I'd like to know. I don't want to go down the 3rd party provider route.

Thanks ... cheers.

There is such a kit already for the 520d!

184 hp (135 kW) to 200 hp (147 kW)
380nm to 420 Nm

The 0-100 is 0,5 sec faster
and 80-120 is 1 sec faster

But they write that it's for the MT and not AT. lets see whether they will have a powerkit for the AT soon?

Well then, they need to make a power kit for the F10 550i!

Furthermore, where does one find information on which power kits are available?

Thanks. I have the Sports Auto, so will have to wait for the auto. Also, I don't believe this kit (even for the MT) is available in the UK. Do you have a link to show this is available in the UK? Cheers.

Thank you - I have been in contact with other similar 3rd-party vendors. The big regarding this route, is the fact that you can say goodbye to your warranty. My car is on a contract scheme (though I will likely purchase this in a couple of years time, as I was able to get an attractive contract) and it is only one year old with a current value of approx. 30k GBP.

This would be an unacceptable gamble, as I believe from other posters on this site, even the "undiscoverable" boxes/plugins are in fact a misnomer on behalf of the 3rd-party vendor, as these boxes/plugins render error messages that get picked up at dealer visit/service time. Even if the immediate dealer/service center is unaware, the car's diagnostics get uploaded to the BMW mother ship for model data analytics etc.

My guess - and I want to stress that it is just that - a guess: BMW won't pay any heed to the diagnostic errors, unless there is a warranty claim, at which point I suspect (just like any big corporate) they will look through the car's data (so the service record in it's entirety), with the intention of ducking out of the claim. In the case of finding diagnostic errors that are known to be caused by an unofficial performance box/plugin, I would say that they are fully within their rights to deny any warranty claim, due to additional stresses placed on engine components. This technique would of course be implemented, regardless of the relative stresses caused, even if completely unrelated to the specific element of the warranty claim being sought.

So to reiterate: this would be an unacceptable gamble.

Cheers.

I cant find a direct link. But at the Official danish bmw site you can find it.

I've searched for it at the the official uk site and i believe that they haven't updated it reagarding the 5 series. Have you been in touch with your dealer? im sure you can get the powerkit uk too. It would be odd if bmw didn't offer it?

I know from my dealer, that they are pretty slow at updating the official sites.

and i agree on the 3rd party vendor tune which can bring a big risk regarding warranty issues

First service complete. The dealer had no idea about an official performance power kit for the 520d. It seems that this is not available in the UK market place at the current time.

But that will void the warranty. Here in Norway you get a five year warranty on your car, so voiding the warranty on a brand new car isn't tempting.

Thanks, but no thanks. This will invalidate the warranty. Also the improved figures both HP and torque are increased to such an extent, that it's difficult to believe that these won't stress the engine too much:

Standard F10 520D output

Power in kW 135 kW
Power in PS 184 PS
Torque 380 Nm

After RaceChip Tuning

Power in kW 171 kW (+ 27%)
232 PS (+ 27%)
446 Nm (+ 17%)
