why are new TPMS sensors not working?

if I have a new set of TPMS sensors, do they require any programming by BMW? I got a new set of wheels and purchased a set of TPMS sensors/valves from a dealership. However, they are not working properly.

I know there was some change in the sensors from year to year, but would hope the BMW dealership actually sold me the correct ones based on the VIN provided to them. It wasn't just a random dealer either, it was a board sponsor, so I like to believe they are a little more knowledgeable about these things. Am I giving them too much credit?

Either you have to reset the TPMS, which you do through idrive, or you got the wrong ones. I ordered TPMS from a sponsor as well and got the wrong ones. I eventually got the correct ones from a BMW dealership.

I tried the idrive reset, but that doesn't work.. So I guess they sent me the wrong ones after all.

Can anyone confirm the correct part # for a 2013 535?

double checked with the dealer who I bought the TPMS sensors from and he assures me that the part # I have received should work. But I still think he is wrong.

The dealer has suggested maybe the sensors were damaged during installation. While I doubt that, knowing the quality of the work that I go to is top notch, lets say one unit broke. I would think that wouldn't make the whole system not work.

Part # I received are 36-23-6-798-726

From what I have read online, 2013 535 require a new part # and the one that I have received will not work. Per post 15 in this thread, http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=643644

Can anyone verify for certain if my problem is that the sensors I have will not work for a 2013?

when I search on realoem.com, the part number you have seems to be the part that was used up until 9/2010. I believe the part number you need is 36106856227.

can I ask you how to say it shows that part # is for use only until production date 9/2010?

I found the part on realoem here, http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...36&fg=15&hl=12

But it doesn't show a date. I just want to be able to send the info to the dealership where I bought the sensors so I can get them to exchange for the new ones.

Plug the part number in the "part nr application search", click on search, select the chassis, then the model car, look in the "up to" field.

The dealership should have asked for your VIN and order them off of that.

So what's the consensus on this? If I want a second set of wheels ... I can simply buy another set of TPMS sensors for the 2nd set of rims ... and swap as I wish onto the vehicle, as long as I do a TPMS reset via iDrive ... the car will automatically detect the sensors that are on the vehicle ... and I do not need a dealership visit whenever I want to swap rims?

Sometimes it takes a few resets but you don't have to go to a dealer. Just make sure you get the correct sensors and you'll be fine

The first set of Tpms sensors never worked. I ordered the new model of sensor and they worked perfect right away. Make sure you get the right model for your car.

Thanks .... I pickup my LCI 550xi this week and I think I want to get a set of Avant Garde M355's in place of the M-Sport wheels. I've had the 535xi F10 for almost 3 years now with those wheels, and would like a change for the new car.

This was very helpful!

I'm really disappointed with how McKenna treated me after the initial sale. Ill stick with tischer (getbmwparts). They've been great for years of parts buying (didn't have the Tpms sensors available when I first ordered them though).

I purchased a set of wheels/tires/sensors from a forum member that came off his 2014 535i. I looked up the part number for the sensors on realoem.com and I thought the sensors would work with my 2011 535xi, but I am getting errors and low tire readings after multiple resets. Sometimes it would be ok, but the errors would always return after I restart the car. The part number as others have indicated is 36106856227. Based on realoem this should work for F10s going back to 9/2010 production date. The production date of my car is 8/2011. I guess I have no choice now but to order the older model sensors (#36106790054) which should have ended, based on realoem. Thoughts?

I don't think the old style TPMS sensors will work. By chance, did the forum member you bought the wheels from live in Canada?

Sorry to hear about that! At least you figured out what was wrong with the system though, and you were able to fix the problem.
