Gonna be an expensive week... Need. More. Power.
Let me start by a small caveat that I don't condone this behavior and I really should curb it because I'm a grown up.
So just had another spirited game of tag with a 991 Carrera S on the way to work. At one time, a 90 start and upwards on an empty stretch, we were dead even. The driver didn't seem like a real enthusiast... and was perplexed why his sports car didn't hit warp drive. Obviously turns are the P car domain. It did hit me that just for a nominal fee and about an hour will get me to the beat the 991 CS level at least in a highway drag race. I want that greedy boost feeling now.....

If the JB4 for the 550i is like the 335i you can adjust settings on the fly. Main reason I want it for the wifes 335i is she can drive in stock mode, and I can dial up some power when I get in it.. Ever since getting my Dinan 550i her car feels lacking

I have a '12 550i 6-speed and a '15 Targa 4S with a 7-speed manual.
The ttV8 is tuned for low-end grunt but falls flat up high. The 911s are okay below 4,000 rpm and just shriek from there on up. They don't have grunt, but they're heavenly when they're spinning. If Mr. Non-enthusiast couldn't be bothered to downshift (and in his defense, he's probably dealt with many more 528s than mighty 550s) I'll bet you'd run with him for a bit. A tuned 550i is formidable, but I don't think you'd walk a properly driven 911 at highway speeds because given enough highway the 911 is good for 185 mph! |

Oh he downshifted.... and we did near limiter speeds and he couldn't pull away... which is why he was perplexed why he didn't just warp drive away from me.
My main point is P Cars are not outright highway bruisers... even a stock 550 can pull hard at speed.... where mass is less of a factor. A buddy has a 15 C4S (last year for 997???) and I pull from him... a 991 CS, I guessed correctly that it was even. 996/997/991 Turbo.... different animal altogether!!! Any who.... need more. Power

550's run strong, no doubt about it... but the 911 (non Turbo) in my garage would walk away from the 550 that parks next to it. I like the 550 almost as much, it's better at many things, but even a 445hp 4200lb car is going to have a tough time with a 400hp 3300lb car. 10% more hp won't offset 30% more weight.

I'm not trying to argue with you. The Porsche did not pull away at any discernible rate. He pulled maybe 2 ft per every 100 yards we traveled. I know you're talking numbers and math in theory, I experienced it in real life.
Just need to get through this car cycle with the baby and in 2 years, I'll have your stable too!!! 991 CS should be decent price point by then and I'll have my 550 paid and we will have a new car for the wifey.

I would have loved to take advantage of somebody else's depreciation on our 911, but the combo of a n/a MT Targa in Saphire Blue seemed like it might be hard to find down the road on car dot com. So, if I amortize it over the next 40 years, it's okay!
