What about manual gearbox then? A 528i surely fits my budget easier, but I am weighting in the fact that I don't own a motorbike anymore which sums up the difference in €€ quite well.
Here it is very hard to find any petrol BMW's to testdrive. |

I too wrestled with this decision. Power wise the 535 and 528 are both adequate. in the mid 90's I had the brief pleasure of driving a 540i M-sport, what a car! It had a 282hp V-8 which was slightly less powerful than the current 535 and only slightly more than the 528. I thought then that was plenty of power...my how times have changed.
My advice to anyone with thinking of the 535/528 is go with the setup you like regardless of the relatively small power difference. I could not decide so I drove both over and over and over again, then I met the devil herself. From the first day I laid eyes on a 550 M-sport I never looked back and this past week ordered one that will be here in July. I already spoke with the delivery specialist and have requested de-badging prior to delivery, I would rather people assume I had a 528 instead, so if anyone wants a never used 550 badge to stroke the ego I will be happy to mail it to you come July or you can wait for the M5 to come out and buy an M badge instead. The moral of the story is if the 535 or 528 make you happy get it and don't even think of driving a 550 or you will buy that one instead. |

How very true the above post.
If you drove a 540i in the 90s a 528 is probably not going to wow you, but the 550 will. But I have not driven anything else so to me the 528 is still the greatest thing in the world |
