Non-typical 535i exhaust options
So I have done the some searching and I have figured out that most people go with some sort of fancy exhaust system that goes for $1,000 to $1,500 that will give them a 2hp bump and some good sound. As much as I admire the quality of these exhaust systems I cannot for the life of me justify spending that type of money, especially for such a minimal gain. Another option is for us to source M5 or M6 mufflers. I love the sound of the M5 mufflers on the 535 and even though it is significantly cheaper than the name brand aftermarket exhaust, the M5/6 guys are realizing that we want their mufflers and are now thinking they are worth gold. Not to mention they are getting harder to find. So the last and cheapest option would be just to cut the factory mufflers off. That's a very good option from a cost perspective, however the sound is just not something I like. I feel it is just not as refined as I would like. So after doing all this research and considering options and costs, it leaves me with just one question....
Why hasn't anyone just swapped the mufflers out with an aftermarket muffler like magnaflow, borla, or flowmaster? I have searched and searched for anyone that has done it and it just doesn't seem to be out there. Am I missing something as to why this wouldn't be possible or a good possibility? |

1000-1500 buys your the best entry level exhaust, BMW MPerformance.
You want something nice? Try $3-5k. MF, Borla and Flowmaster have no place on a BMW IMO. |

I might be selling my M5 Mufflers around next week so let me know if you're interested.

And I agree Magnaflow, Borla or Flowmaster my not be the typical exhaust systems for these cars due to their nature of making exhausts systems for mainly American cars. However, Borla did start out making exhaust for Rolls Royce and Ferrari. Also, considering the nature of the car I would figure it would be more frowned upon to just delete the muffler than to swap it with a simple aftermarket muffler. |

Its your car at the end of the day. Do you want you want. I'm debating a muffler delete too and I might try it out but I doubt you'll get flake from anyone from doing it.

Yea I saw that in one of your other posts. It's just hard to go off of videos on your tube. Plus I don't want to do something, then hate it and have to spend even more money changing it.

True True. Well if I do end up getting it, I'll post what I think about it. My biggest concern is the drone factor.

I'd appreciate that. I also thought about either doing a muffler delete with a resonator inline to quiet down any harsh tones or a muffler delete and install some J tubes to help eliminate the drone. I had J tubes on my old G8 with LT headers and it was super loud and nasty at WOT but rarely any drone.

MPoster, I've seen your car at the Pavs. I recently put a Remus on my 535i and now find myself driving with the windows down to hear it. I really like it. No drone, sounds good.

But the delete turned out really nice. There isn't really much drone compared to M5 mufflers. It is pretty loud at cold start so I'm sure my neighbors noticed at 4:30am. The main difference is that its louder now. I can rear like pops when slowing down and when upshifting. |
