Hey guys,

Just installed some OEM M5 grills on my 535. From the DIY instructions, it seemed easy, but I'm not going to lie, it was a pain in my ass!

Ohh well, it's done now and my fingers are bleeding but i'm happy with the result.

Next to come is 35% tint all around, ACS springs, and 15mm spacers in the rear (and maybe an M5 exhaust and BMS intake)

I read that some people just yanked the grills out or used a small flathead to unhinge the clips without removing the bumper mounts but I am not that brave and didn't want to break the mounts and/or damage my paint.

Having said that, it was very easy to remove the top portion of the bumper, I just couldn't reach my fat paws into the opening to get to the clips. If you have large hands I would bring a long skinny metal rod or something to undo the top and side clips. After you wedge the top and sides out, just give it a quick tug while pulling up and you should be good!

Grab them by the vertical slats and yank straight out (straight is the key to not damage the clips on the old grills). You won't damage the bumper at all and worst case you might break a clip off an old grill.

I remember one post in the past that stated that the grills on the LCI's are much more difficult to pull out. Can anyone confirm this? Does the pull straight out method still work for the LCI's?

I do it all the time (I have three sets of grills that I've exchanged a lot trying to get the right look) and while I have broken one tab, it still locked into place and I haven't scratched the paint. The key is to do it in small controlled pulls, moving from one side of the grill to the other. The trick is to pull it out as evenly as possible. If you do pull one side out a lot, push it back in and then pull the other side. It beats the normal method hands down. I can change mine out in just a couple of minutes.

I found that you can literally just yank out the existing grille when the car and front end is warm. I did mine originally after driving it home 400 miles during a 90+ degree day after picking it up. They just pulled right out. I pulled them again a few months ago when I got the car appraised and again made sure the vehicle and front end was warm (went for a drive) but also made sure to lightly use my heat gun on the grilles prior to removal. Pull firmly but with care and they pop right out.

Obviously, the newer the parts on the car are, the more apt the plastic hasn't started degrading yet (like on an old E46 or something where the grill just disintegrates when you remove it.)

I also advise using a heat gun to prep the reflector area as well if you are removing/replacing them.

I have an LCI and just yanked them out without any problems. I did allow the car to sit in the sun for a couple of hours though.
