I'd like to know the same as well. I'm not close to the warranty being up, but it will be a driving factor in whether I keep my ActiveHybrid5 around when its about to expire, spl with the additional electric motor.

Did you lease or buy?

I remember searching extended warranty here and they posted info on a guy to contact with unbeatable pricing for the warranties. I forgot which post I've saw it in but I would give a couple dealers a call to get the best pricing.

If you drive a lot, you can get the best package for 3k~4k which covers an extra 3 years and 50k more miles (7years/100k).

Bought. I got a 2012 in July of this yr, executive demo at a really good price with less than 7k miles. I'm already inching up to 15k total, and haven't taken any trips as yet.

Ouch! The hybrid battery needed as you pack on the miles is going to be prohibitive. Not sure there is any warranty you can purchase to cover that.

Do you know something specific about the useful life of these batteries? Other hybrid cars have been running high miles/life without failures as a rule.

I'd like to know as well. I figured it was a gamble anyway, this being only the 2nd year BMW made a hybrid, but the technology has been there for a long time, so was hopeful it isn't too bad. Wondering if there's any scheduled maintenance that I need to worry about after 50k miles. If so, I might get the maintenance program upgrade.

The question is; over time how much power is the battery producing compared to when new? A Toyota Prius gets 50 mpg when it is new, but as the battery loses capacity, what is the fuel mileage in year 5? Its not like the battery that starts the car, you know it is finished when it won't start the car. In year 5, the Prius might be doing 35 mpg, but does anyone notice?
