Google Maps and "Send to BMW"
I've got an early build 535i (June 2010), and no combox. I've been reading about the google capability to send addresses to my car, and tried it last night. However I don't see any result in the car itself. Demos on the internet say to look in the MyInfo area of I-drive, which I don't have (older I-drive version)? It also said to check in the messages area of the BMW assist menu.. nothing received.
I do have BMW assist, so not sure what the problem is. I don't know if the lack of a combox has anything to do with it - but I suspect the info is sent via BMW assist alone (much like service updates etc). Any ideas on how to get this thing working?? |

I do not have a combox and use this functionality all the time. Hop in to your car, look around the sunroof button areas and you'll see the little flipdown for the "assistance" button. Tap the button and then you have to register BMW assistance with your email address.
Once this is done, find something in google, choose the "send to car" option. Choose BMW and then type in your registered email address in CAPITAL letters. Within seconds, you can walk over to your car... go to "bmw assist" and look under messages. It will be there |

If you have BMW Assist, have you logged in and set security questions/answers? A web search will get you there or try this link or this one(for UK).
Also check out BMW Routes for planning several stops then sending the whole works to the car. The log in link is not very obvious, in the upper left corner of the page. If you have a BMW Assist account and have logged in and configured and enabled everything you find there, then it should work. After sending a sat nav location from Google maps, in the car's iDrive, I push Menu button, select Office, select Messages - then a list of all new and old messages is shown. Select the one you've just sent, select the flag icon and you should be on your way. This is really a BRILLIANT feature - no more need to enter postcodes or addresses using the spinning wheel in the car. Good Luck! |

1. Need BMW Assist
2. Email (for send-to) is email registered with BMW Assist 3. Sent addresses show up as messages in BMW Assist (not in the map/navigation section, per se) I use it all the time. Google Search has gotten better, but Maps on PC is by far the best. |

Most of the issues I have seen regarding this have been because BMW assist does not have the correct email address on file, or if you had another BMW with a BMW assist account, it is still sending to that car.

I gave up on this issue. I called bmw about this so many times. Everything is set up right & it still doesnt work. This issue has to be with my car. when i bring it in for service soon im going to ask them to fix this issue.

I went thru the exact same thing. Was working great for over a year and then Google and BMW changed things on the back end. Took my car into service and they couldnt fix. I solved it by giving BMW a new email address. Try this first.

Does that mean that you have you pressed your BMW Assist Button while driving the car and done the "Coutesy Call" to set up your account? Mine did not work (as reported by others)...until I did this. Don't give up....it has to work! |

Yup! That's how they got mine to work. Seems my old email address was "stuck" to the old car. Let us know how it works when you change it.

The dealer signed me up for BMW Assist on March 4 when I paid for the car. I sent waypoints from Google maps later that day even though no one had sent an initialization message from the car since it was at the Performance Center. Picked up the car on 3/11 at the Performance Center and the Google waypoints were in the iDrive BMW Assist message area before I made the first BWM Assist call. Bottom line - all it takes is for the dealer to process the paperwork with your correct e-mail address. No call is necessary from the car. Based on previous posts, it seems that if you have two BMW's with the same email address the waypoints only go to your first vehicle.

Sorry for the confusion. "Waypoints" comes from my experience with the use of a hand held GPS for hiking and geocaching. I meant destination. However, I think you can save the Google destination as a new destination in iDrive then add it as an intermediate destination when you are establishing a route. I haven't tried it. but it makes sense.

I had used this on my previous BMW (E60) but not on the recent one (F10), when I tried today google maps didn't offer the "send to car" feature. Eventually called BMW, we got it working, they first said google had completely revised their maps, which they have and it wouldn't work with firefox but would with IE. By googling "google send to car" you will likely find out how to make it work. Using IE to get to a google maps https site I had to log in (supposedly only once): https://maps.google.com Once logged in and searching for a location I did get the "send to car" option. I later went back to firefox with the same URL and it worked there just as well. I did a fair amount of forum searching before resorting to BMW, just posting this so folks know it does still work, tho google has made some changes which make it hard to find.

I'm a Mac user, I found using Firefox for Google Maps works. Previously worked on Safari but no longer. (It's the only thing I use Firefox for, but it's worth it, it's such a great convenience)
Also, as others have mentioned you must have whatever email address you intend on using associated with BMW Assist. |

you can just download the send to car app from the google play store on your phone (not sure if iphone has the app as well). much easier than trying to use the new google maps on pc
